Just that.
I have aftermarket head unit and door speakers. I'm thinking of getting a basic sub and amp to take the bass stress off the doors and rear quarter panels where it creates buzz and rattle. The idea of getting some wire conncected to the head unit to the trunk seems daunting, what's involved? About how much would it run me if i stay on the basic side of things? Not trying to shake any sidewalks, just want a tight clean bass line ![]() Thanks ![]()

depending on the wattage of the amp you get, you're gonna need to run either an 8 or 4 gauge fused positive lead from the battery to the trunk.
then you're gonna need to send a remote turn on lead (power antenna usually) and rca audio wires from the back of the radio to the trunk. then you're gonna need to mount a ground wire somewhere in the trunk or under the rear seat to some bare metal. all this should be included in an amp install kit. then all you do is mount the amp and plug it all in. plug in the sub with some speaker wire (also should be in the kit) and you should be set to go. running the wires is pretty easy, the hardest part is getting the power lead through the firewall. the wiring from the radio can meet up with the power lead in/under the dash (keep it away from the pedals), and i ran my wires under the door sills. they just pop off and there's plenty of space to run the wires from the front to the back without ripping up the seats and carpet. hope i helped out a little bit.

well, the thing is, are you going for a small, efficient sub that doesn't need a big amp, or a big sub box that takes up your whole trunk with 2 or 3 speakers in it needed a big-ass amp.
Find the sub and box you need. Get am amp with a similar or lower (but not really low) RMS wattage than the speaker can handle. and then get a wiring kit for that size amp. Getting the wires from the back of the radio isn't hard if you put the radio in yourself. If you had someone else do it, have them do it for you. Where's sean_fabnich with those sonic electronx links when you need him??? |
