Default XM Radio Onyx install suggestions?

Setting up my wife's 2001 NB with a NEO Ipod/Aux adapter to run thru the CD changer port to connect both Ipod and XM Radio. Anyone install an Onyx from XM Radio in a New Beetle?

Current thinking is to mount the radio car kit (permanently) on the black plastic piece left of the steering column - the piece that is just like the flower holder piece on the right side of the steering column. The radio unit would then be removable but the kit would stay.

Any better install ideas...any example photos?

That's what I finally decided on with my Sirius Starmate 5 radio...The only problem is in seeing the artist/song info while peering through the steering wheel, but the upside is, it's totally out of the way, and I have room on the other side for my GPS set-up when I use it (with MIG's custom made GPS mount ). I use velcro to hold the radio dock in place.

It takes a little adjusting to clear the bright headlight stalk.

Terrific post...thanks! And yes, I bought a Garmin for my wife last night, and was planning to use the center of the dash spot for the GPS. However, I am intrigued by the custom mount alternative. Thank you for the pic and the link...very helpful.

Anybody else have another suggestion, or come to the same conclusion?
