Default Put Monsoon back into Beetle with aftermarket HU

Hi, I am a former New Beetle owner and am looking to get another one. My previous Beetle had Monsoon and I really want it in my next one. I have found some that I can tell came with Monsoon but have an aftermarket HU. My question is can I just buy a Monsoon HU and everything will work? I thought I read on some forum that the speakers for the Monsoon were different than non-monsoon speakers so maybe the speakers would also need to be replaced? I just want to know as much as I can before I buy one so I can be sure to get what I want without too much trouble. Thanks in advance.

Chad

Default After market HU...

You would have to check out the entire audio system to verify which portions of the original Monsoon system were still in-tacked. Hopefully they left the amp, speakers, etc. and only replaced the HU. That might not be a bad thing in view of the average at best original head units that came with our cars. In my 99 1.8 GLS ( really has all the GLX options) I replaced all the speakers, added a pre-amp with cross over, and kept the head unit that runs the 6 disc player in the rear hatch area. I had the VW head unit re-coded for decreased bass response so the bass would not be over whelming with the new amp plus had the treble response tweaked by re-coding to allow for the new speakers. All re-coding is done by the VAG-COM scanner... I forget which codes were changed, most VW dealers don't know that these two things can be adjusted. I have them written down with all my repair receipts. I'll look later and re-post. Good luck, JK

Well my car came non-monsoon equipped.

However, my door speakers where blown out and I replaced them with Monsoon speakers and they sound great... If that helps
