Default Radio code....

You should have the radio code for your unit somewhere in all the paper work that should have come with the car. Each head unit has a unique code that prevents stolen units from working after they have been removed from the car improperly. Without that code, the radio is useless. Talk to your dealer to see how you can get a copy of this code and then keep it written down in a couple of places like attached to the title/registration or any other permanent record on the car. Good luck, JK

My dealer required the VIN number and the serial number off of the side of the radio. If you don't want to pull the radio from the dash to get the serial number, look beside the manufacturers sticker and the drivers door post and there will be a seperate sticker with just a number on it, nothing else, that sticker is your radio serial number. On my 2000 you turn the radio on, enter the code with the first four preset numbers and then hold down the arrow button (scan?) that points to the right on the right side of the preset buttons until the radio plays.

who wants to steal a stock radio though... the code feels like a waste to me

after market at least can go in 95% of any vehicle, whereas stock radio would be like the .5% that drive year xxxx-xxxx model xxx car.

but besides that, with the rest of the paper work you should have the code, and make sure you have it in a few, in case it goes missing... something tells me dealing with the dealer might charge stupid fee's and a hassle to deal with

Mine did it over the phone. You need the VIN number and the radio serial number. Don't want to take the radio out to get the serial number? There is a small sticker thatlookslike a vin number on the door jam beside the bigger sticker with the vin on it. This little narrow sticker has only a number/letter combination on it, nothing else. Thats the radio serial number.

Sounds like the software got scrambled if it is really stuck like you say. the only way to fix this is by reloading the software at the radio repair center which would mean having the dealer replace the radio. I'm not sure what a non warranty repair costs.

You could try a junk yard for another radio, but you will need to get the code for it.

i had the exact same problem. exact. you can't do anything with the radio right? it won't let you turn anything or enter anything? the dealer unhooked the radio which reset it, then entered the code. if you get the code you are good, but you will have to disconnect the radio first now that it is froze up like that.

joe

edit to add: this cost me nothing at the dealer.

Question My radio is Frozen but not like my owners manual says

Ok so I left a light on and my battery died, it happens. But like everyone else my radio won't work now. I've been reading the forums and I read my owners manual. It says that my radio should say "safe" then go to 1000 so I can enter a code but it's not. It's stuck on an Fm radio station and I can't get to the place to enter the code, does anyone know how I can reset the radio so that I get the safe setting?
