Default LCD on Monsoon Radio

Hello everyone. Have an unusual situation with my 2005 Bug convertible and the Monsoon radio. Everything still works just fine except the LCD display which shows the band you are on, station frequency, track numbers etc. has become so dim in the past few days you can hardly read it. We bought this car last September and everything concerning the radio was fine until several days ago when the LCD went dim. I have been through this entire car audio forum looking for answers but do not see the problem listed. One response said that often quirks like this can be fixed by removing the fuse for the radio which they said was # 42. I turned the radio on and removed fuse 42 and it still kept playing. I tried other fuses looking at the symbols on the fuse chart located in the fuse block cover. I tried every symbol I did not recognize and no fuse made the radio turn off. I sure hope someone can help me with this. It is not a bad problem except you do not know what radio station you are on. Please help!! Thanks in advance.

Define "dim" please

1)The LCD itself has special strips that it sits on to make the segments black when the radio is turned on.

2)The LCD on your radio is backlit by LED's that shine through a difuser and then the display when the headlights are turned on.

I have seen where people used spray cleaners to clean the buttons and the cleaner actually caused corrosion inside on the display board causing the LCD segments to look faded or what you might call "dim" (half way between black and grey).

No fuse will correct this problem other than having the radio itself repaired.

Thanks for the reply. I should have explained "dim" more. I can see parts of each letter and/or number but not enough to decipher the letter and/or number. It is almost like part of any character does not get dark enough to read. We have not used any type of cleaner on the dash. However, a few months ago after washing the convertible top, a small amount leaked on the dash when we next drove the car. I don't think it was enough to leak in the radio as we caught it with a towel before it could run that far. This was about 6 months ago and no problems until last week. Any other ideas?

missing segments of numbers is still a problem that is inside the radio itself.

If you have any warranty time left, now is the time to use it.
