Question New radio need help with hooking up amp.

I got a new sony in dash cd player and had to buy the wire adapter for it. The amp plug was not included and the radio doesnt have another plug for it. The amp is the factory monsoon. Is there a way I can wire it in the adapter plug?

ive never done the amp wiring. but i believe the monsoon amp uses high level input. so the plugs on the back of the original radio...whether its monsoon or not...is the same. someone else can verify this.

so basically you should have three small plugs, with multiple wires coming out of them, that came out of the back of the radio and the vw ant plug. if you bought the vw wiring harness, then those three plugs should just get plugged into the vw harness (hopefully you got the metra one) and wires on the other end of that new harness get wired to your sony harness. just match up the colors...im not sure if you have to wire the amp turn on lead...usually blue or blue/white (i can never remember which is the amp turn on....one is the amp turn on and one is the power ant wire....the power ant wire would only be hot when the radio is on....not when the cd player is used...in case you have to test for it) alot of times high level input amps automatically turn on with a powered input. so hopefully someone else on the forum can chime in on that too.

but the bottome line is you will just wire it up like it was a non monsoon radio (use metra vw harness please, dont cut wire plugs out of the dash)

you wont have to use, or basically cant use the rca pre outs on the radio.

hope i helped.
good luck

What he said^^^^. It uses a speaker level input so just connect the 4 speaker outputs to the vw adapter plug. You will also need a power adapter for the antenna(sends power to the preamp in the antenna base)

Sean and Macdave are right, the monsoon amp powers up off the speaker outputs and does not have a special wire.

If you have a amp turn on lead from the Sony radio you might use it to power the antenna base preamp.

Unhappy oops

I guess I went the cheap route and it didnt work. I bought the adapter set on ebay and it has the antenna adapter too. It just did not have the amp plug and the sony radio does not have any extra wires after I matched the colored wires together. Where can I get this vw wiring harness?

if you are just doing the basic install like explained above....this is all you need.

go to the following site...enter vehicle info. after there is a drop down menu that has different parts...select harness to car.
i beleive its parts number 70-1784.

best buy or any local shop could get you it...

Will I have to tap into the wires coming from the radio because they are all plugged into the matching wires for the wide plug but nothing is left for the amp harness.

yeah..the three plugs that came out the back of the stock radio go into that box....(i think...maybe one gets left out....you can figure it out thou...whatever fits)

just splice all the wires together...at least twist and tape...or solder if you can...all the matching colors that yo9u have from both the vw harness and the radio harness...

only think you may wanna research is the k-line...its probably a non issue...but depending on the year of your car you have to make sure you wire it properly...

just search this forum for k line issues...or hopefully someone can clear it up for you. if never had the issue so im not sure what the real issue is..perhaps its with models i havent worked on...

the fun part can be securing the new radio in the dash...as you probably noticed there isnt much room in the radio bay....gotta make sure you get the ant adapter and the wiring harness shoved outta the way....and then there is a plastic support at the back of the radio bay.....the stock radio sat against it for support...it may get in the way of your radio...depending on your radio and where the connects are on the back of it...and where the heatsync is...

be careful when reaching in there..because not only can you rub thru a wires insulation on some of the bare metal edges in there...but you can also mess up the two vents above the radio...if you feel around the top of the radio housing youll feel these long plastic arms that attach to the on/off switch of each individual vent...if you arent careful when reaching in the bay you can pop them lose or break them. just a headsup

I have a 99 gls. The sony radio has two slots for the wiring harness adapter and on connector didnt have anywhere to go. What wires or product do I need to fix this. or does anyone have a diagram on how to slice in the wires from the amp to the radio.

I just bought a Sony CD receiver and I'm going to hook it up.
Although I don't have a Monsoon just the six speaker system.
I'm not sure if this helps but here's my wiring diagram.
The blue/white striped wire goes to the amp remote in.
