Default My speaker installation

This weekend I decided to do the installation of my MB Quart speakers. The fronts are Reference series and the rears are 3-way Discus. They are powered by my Alpine head unit rather than a 4-way amp because I wanted to keep this simple, plus the Alpine can easily drive these.

Also, I wanted to have an invisible installation so we had to keep the stock grilles. The result is a sound that blows everybody away.

Stock fronts (rivets!!!):

Using mounting studs:

6.5s mounted using modified adapters:

Rears equally rubbish:

Rear 6x9 mounted:

No clearance issues:

Thank you.

I love the sounds of the MB Quart speakers. These were taken from our mk3 VR6 and transplanted into this car. There is a custom sub box that I showed in my introduction thread. Add it together and the sounds are crystal clear and powerful.

The Ai-Net cable came in recently so that got installed today, too. Now I've got Philips Opus rocking the Bug.

Default Questions about your speaker mounting

Did you reuse the stock speaker mount/adapter and bolt it all together? I think that is what I see there... I called a few install shops, nobody has the mounts in stock.

Fronts are 6.5s, rears 6x9s... any second thoughts about this? I was thinking of doing transplant soon, looks like I'll have to raid the hardware store. Does the vibration loosen anything?
-Thanks in advance

Actually, you've got 6.5"s all the way around. You can do a bit of "custom" work to fit 6x9s in the back. I did the same thing with ours with Booboo's advice. I had to do some trimming though. The baskets on my Fosgates were too big, but no big deal.

On the fronts, I didn't have to reuse the frame on mine. I had plenty of room, because my 6.5"s weren't that deep. I can't compare what ours sounded like before, but it sounds great now. (all 4 speakers were dead when we bought it) Loved riding around listening to the a pillar tweets. That rocked! lolx
