Default 2000 stereo - CD works but radio does not?

Everything on the stereo has been fine, but while going over a speed bump my radio stopped putting out any sound.

Stereo is powered, and CD changer pumps out the jams, but the radio puts out nothing. I hit the "seek" or "scan" and it just rolls through the wavelengths - never stops, so I assume it is not getting a signal.

The antenna is still on and tight; the antenna cable is still attached to the rear of the stereo. Unplugging the stereo to "reset" it didn't help. Any ideas?

I searched quite a bit in the forums and found nothing like this. I did note some talked of a powered antenna, but would a 2000 GLX have such a thing? I didn't see a blue power cable... maybe a short in the antenna wire elsewhere?

Or just a half-dead deck?

That is a tough one. My changer in my 99 started playing a bit and after a couple of minutes, it stops. If I leave it on, it finally goes to "cd error" and if I turn it off and wait a few minutes, it will come back on and do the same thing. Good luck with your problem!

Is your antenna plugged in? Not to the back of your radio, but I mean to your actual roof?

The antenna on the roof attaches with threads, so I'm not sure what you mean by "plugged in". I went by a dealer and the fella said there was one more "attachment between the stereo and the antenna (he pointed at rear driver's-side pillar) but said I'd have to remove the headliner (w/special tools) to check it. Either that or the stereo itself has gone bad.

I just removed my headliner and I can confirm that no special tools were needed to do so. Just 2 screwdrivers, the flat tip and the other one, a wrench to remove the bolts behind the bolt behind the seatbelt.

Takes about an hour to do

Is your antenna bent? It should be straight out from the mast, i.e. like this / My 2000's antenna is bent over, there's a curve in the thicker part just above the mast and it's practically horizontal at the end, but I still have reception. It's not uncommon. I've heard of people with bent antennas having troubles, though.

If it is bent and you go to the trouble of taking out the head liner, that would be the time to test/replace it.

No need to remove headliner !!

Just atatch a small 12 volt battery to your male end and a mini bulb to your aerial. No light then remove headliner
