Arrow Whats the best way to use my iPod??

Hi! In my 04 new beetle I have the upgraded monsoon head unit with a cassette player.. I also have the 6 CD changer, but no aux port. What's the best way to hook up my ipod? A cassette adapter? Does anyone know any good ones out there if that's my only option??
Thanks!

There are numerous options out there for you. My two best suggestions would be the iSimple vehicle specific adaper (roughly $200 installed) or simply replace the in dash stereo to something a bit more up to date. I replaced mine with Kenwood's newest Bluetooth head unit. It has a USB cable that can be routed different places as well as BT so I don't need to plug my iPhone in unless I need it charged. All you will need if you go this route is a wiring harness, a dash kit, and an antenna adapter. I am a certified mobile installer for Best Buy and do this car frequently. Hope this helps!

Or, if you want the really cheapo way out, I bought a cassette adapter for less than $20 at Target. I think it's a Griffin. It works just fine. Of course, it is not as great as having the nice intallation as recommended by WHITEY0375, but, hey If you're on a tight budget, it works

You could also just get an FM transmitter that hooks up to your ipod and you can plug into the cigarette lighter/power. I had one but I lost the plug so it drains the power on my ipod pretty quickly.

You can get a good one for about $80 I think that you tune to an empty radio channel.

That's what I use too. I think I paid something like $12 for mine.

I use the same thing...the tape adaptor. I put my iPod on shuffle and just shake it to change the songs, that way there is no distraction trying to play something. Been working well.

Hipefully after getting a few other things done Ill upgrade.

Thanks!!
I am broke right now... since I just bought my nbc... so I think I am gonna go with the tapedeck.

What brands do you prefer? My friend said she bought one "Scosche" and it didn't work for her.. it just kept ejecting the tape. I just want something that will work well!
Thanks!

This is what I have, Cassette Adapter. I bought the Belkin one but the sound quality was terrible, lots of static. I've had this one for nearly a year and have not had any problems with it.

Thanks for telling me! I was gonna look into a Belkin one just because it's a name brand that I recognize and know they have generally nice stuff. But not cassette adapters I guess lol!

Mine's an ancient memorex adapter.

If I were buying a new one, I'd probably get a philips or maxell.
(They've got four star review averages on Amazon.)

My tapedeck adapter is made by Monster, same folks that make Monster Cable. I havent had any "real" issues yet...I do notice the payback volume will fall off a little once in a while, but other than that its been perfect for $25! I loop the cord from the tape through the pass dash grab handle and it keeps the cord away from the gear shifter!

FWIW, I got mine at the Apple store. Im suprised to hear the bad reviews about the Belkin unit, I really like their products and havent had a single issue with any of them!

Buy one of these for $19.99. It's the same thing that VW sells pretty much just older. I paid $140 for my first one of these in 2004 and picked one up for my TDI last month from the same seller. Both still work awesome and give complete control from the headunit using the CD changer buttons.

Well I learned 2 lessons about the tape deck adaptors.

1) DONT buy it from APPLE....after 14 days they will not give a refund, or even let you return it and use the money toward another product (FM tuner).

2) DONT buy the Monster Cable brand. APPLE did give me a warranty replacement casette adaptor, but after a week or three I had issues (the same as the original one I bought). It would do all kinds of dumb stuff, play out of one chanel only, volume and tone were affected, ect.

Well being they person I am, I HATE when things done work as designed, and after being frustrated by this the casette adaptor got thrown out the window at 60mph! And NO, I dont normally litter!

My awesome GF bought me a Sony headunit for the NB that I was drooling over! It has a fold down face and a tray that rotates out, thats where you can place your ipod/Iphone/USB card into it, rotate the tray back into the head unit and close the face! seamless intergration of my iPod, I can use a USB card, OR hook my Crackberry up to it via 3mm cable to the port on the front! 50x4 amp and the price is right at $150! I cant wait to get it installed next weekend! Its a Sony DSX-S100, the coolest thing since slised bread!

Check out gromaudio.com. I got an adapter that plugs into the cd changer port and plays your ipod while charging it and you can do simple functions through the radio controls for under $100.

Cassette adapters suck. Sure, there cheap, but the quality of sound is poor... and if your cassette heads are dirty you are really in for a treat. Save your money and put a towards something worthwhile.
