Here's a few pics of the fiberglass subwoofer I finished up a few days ago. I still need to remount the amp and hide the wires, but I think it turned out really well. Anyways, I hope everyone has a great weekend, until the next post. El Jefe

I'll post a tutorial and how to picture thread when I start building the enclosures for my beetle in about two weeks. There’s a lot of really good video’s on how to fiberglass on youtube. Once you start making these, the sky is the limit when comes to the design of enclosure. I believe there is also a few threads on this in the forum.

That's pretty awesome. Does it have enough space for the sub though? I mean, I know it fits, but I mean, sound space. Sometimes too small of boxes will impact how the sub sounds. That looks like a 12 inch or so sub, though I can't be too sure from the pictures, and that seems like a very shallow box. Just curious. I think it looks GREAT though!! I am jealous because my box is nice and small but not quite that nice...

You're right the box effects the sub in many ways. I was pretty lucky with this one and got it right on the nose @ .85 sf. The 10" sub requires a sealed box between .65 and 1.25 sf. I was right at about .95 sf before I lined the inside with 4 layers of sound dampening material and a half inch of foam. First time I've used foam to line the interior of a sealed box, it's required by Pioneer for this sub. I have to say though, I love the sound of the box.
Here's a few pictures of the depth of the enclosure, I believe I went 14" out from the corner one way and 13" the other way towards the rear of the car. Last edited by El Jefe; 09-14-2010 at 02:44 AM.. |

the actual volume of the sub box is probably less than what you think it is .....most folks don't calculate that the SPEAKER will take up almost 1/2 S.f. when mounted in the box...and i know this is an old thread....i just wanted to put that info out for the net person who reads it.

Droid-I don't want people to get confused and start adding internal volume for thier sub-woofer's enclosure if they don't need to. I believe most of your larger speaker companies include speaker displacement with the recommended enclosure volumes. I know Pioneer clearly states that in the owners manual.
