Thumbs up Ok, I'm going to do this myself !

Well here it goes. I am going to change out my oem stereo in Sterling. I am going to replace it with a Kenwood KDC-MP745U. I have the wiring harness and the atenna adapter and the face plate. My husband says I can't do it and if I do it I will end up messing up the stereo. Well I am here today to "try" to prove him wrong. I had to go to the dlrship to have the keys put in to get the radio out. Got that done then went to autozone to get the wiring harness which they did not have so that brought me to best buy for the face plate and then the harness. So off I go.. Will be back in say about 4-5 hrs. with it installed. I swear I am going to prove my husband (Marc) wrong!!! Wish me luck you all!!!

Good luck, Kerri! You can do it. I put a new one in Gandalf recently. I did have to "bypass" the harness to make it all fit.

Default Ok she is good

Well Well,

I thought she would mess up the install becuase I read all the horror stories on here about the WHITE wire. I read somewhere if you hook that one up it will shut down the radio and it wont work? Not sure where I read it.

So my wife is becoming quite the little Do it yourselfer with the beetle. I am happy to be with her. She can fix mine next LOL

Good job.

My wife have the same car and I am planing to replace the radio, one question did you have to bypass the MONSOON amp in the trunk or the harness adapter behind the radio was enough?
Thanks

I'm late for the party, but congrats on the install. That's a pretty sweet looking head unit- i'll have to Google it and see what's up.

Big Ups on girl power!!!

The tech at the dealership also said it could put your car into a limp mode and make it practically undrivable.

He is an idiot. The K-line issue is a wire that is used for diagnostics on the Beetle BUT is jumpered (connected) to 12V in many older aftermarket wiring adapters. If connected to 12V then it has NO effect on the car but can burn out certain diagnostic cables (including VW dealership cables). The end result of that was many dealers refuse to connect their diagnostic systems to cars fitted with aftermarket head units unless either the OEM stereo is refitted or at least the aftermarket unit is removed.

Most newer aftermarket wiring adapters donīt jumper the wire to 12V but it is still worth checking. It is well documented on the Ross-Tech K-line Page
