Default Show me your Subwoofers!!

I got a 10" Cerwin-Vega Subwoofer from the awesome MichelleRoze, but i'm not sure how I want to install it...

Can you guys post pics of how you guys put subwoofers in your trunks? Oh, and what else can you fit in your trunk afterwards?

I don't have any installations myself, but if I was installing one I would probably pull out the spare tire and build a box that would fit in there. This way I wouldn't take up the little trunk space these beetles already have.

It looks like JL audio makes a box that fits in the spare tire well already.

I found this online. It is two 12" subwoofers. If dual 12's will fit, a single 10 should have no problem.

Looks like MTX makes a custom box as well.

I'd prefer the stealthbox because i'd love to keep my spare tire! Unfortunately, that one is $725........

That one is better, but its a lot bigger in person than it looks in pictures. I hope I can find one cheaper than that too.

I had no problems fitting a "single person's" weeks worth of groceries around the box my 2 10's were in. Granted, it was a smallish box. but it was all i needed. If i needed to haul anything bigger i'd just unplug the subs and leave them at home for that trip...

I mean, if your car isn't a show car... why go through all the trouble of making/ordering a custom box when it's more of a hassle than it's worth compared to just buying a regular one. Some loop side velcro taped to each other so it hooks the box to the carpet helped keep it in place, very well too.

Still, the car did get 2nd place new beetle mild at h20 in 2006... and that wasn't for my cool sub box...

I was kinda being a smart a$$ but what I meant was designing and building one yourself. There's enough stuff out there on the internet to teach yourself how to make just about anything. That way you could choose the design, color, location, size, etc. of the one you want. Plus, it's alot more rewarding knowing you did it yourself....that and bragging rights!

Since I put in Passat seats (they don't pop forward) and deleted the back seat (permanently), I'm installing two 8s under/behind the driver and passenger seats... or that's the plan.

SuperM, I was looking at your "build a box" thread. I really like the box you built! What material did you use to stretch over the wood frame for your enclosure, and did you just paint on fiberglass resin on it so that it would hold its shape? The pics are awesome, just need more details!

Thanks for sharing....looks awesome!

Thanks and your welcome I used a cheep fleece blanket ( Like the kind you get at wal mart ) . Stretched over the frame works real well. Its a little thicker than using T- Shirt material and takes a lot of rosin the first time you apply. I also use a little fiber glass mat on the inside for strength.

one suggestion thou: pre-cut the speaker mounts first. I left little tabs holding them together till everything setup. it makes it easy to cut the center out.

Have a quick question foir Super M, when you made your sub box did you work out how much air the subs needed in the box? or did you just make one and not worry ? only reason i ask is i made a standard box for my 2 10" subs that was worked out to the air that they need around them to kick hard and it takes up nearly all my boot ! would love a smaller box like yours if it was still the correct volume, or don't even know if it matters about the volume of air inside that much.

i have done a few different installs in the bug. my favorite for sounds was building a box for two tens in the spare tire well..but after moving to alaska i decided having a spare was a good idea. i sold that off and just purchased a jl loaded enclosure. i wanted the stealthbox...but i thought id try this option first. it retails for 280.

JL Audio CP108LG-W3v3 Subwoofer systems

it freaking pounds. no one will only beleive its an 8. awesome sub and box...extreme sq...with some spl. ultimate option....do two an really rock out.

Default yeaaap

i built my sub into the floor. i built a box to fit into the spare tire hole, but not only that it fits perfect into the center of the rim so i still have my spare.sounds amazing. i couldent use a staderd box shape more of a stop sing.losts of liquid nail, an sylicone.after i built the stucture out of plywood i fiberglassed the box and got 1/4 inch foam and some spray glue. glued it to the top then sprayed some green flanel on. i think its great=)all comes out as one piace an disconects real easy. im doing my whole trunk with this grren stuff soon.
