Default ARGH! Radio issues

Okay. To start with, the car is a '00 New Beetle without the Monsoon system.

Got in the car last night, turn the key, EVERYTHING dies. Loose battery cable. Funny thing, she's been driving it since we bought it in May, and it waits to do it to ME. Anyway, "safe" pops up on the radio. No problem, we've got all the info that came with the car when it was new. Guess what, no one bothered to fill out the radio card.

Now, to my questions.
1. Can you code the radio with a VagCom? I have a VERY good reason for asking.
2. What are the chances that the second number in the code will be zero? I found out last night that the "2" doesn't work on the radio in Haru.
3. With the "2" inop, should I just submit to an aftermarket HU, and listen to the wife complain?

Thanks everyone, and have a good weekend.

this doesn't really answer your question, but the radio card that came with my nb didn't have the right number - so i took it to a vw dealership and they found the correct one at no charge. but it is a four digit code so not sure if your "2" problem will be an issue or not...

Well, the local VW dealer is an hour and a half away, and isn't the friendliest group to deal with. Also, since the preset buttons 1 thru 4 are the way that you enter your code, I think having a 2 that doesn't work will be an issue unless my second digit is a 0.
