Default Monsoon Speaker Issue

I am having an issue with the woofer cone in my driver's side door on my Beetle. At first I thought it was simply blown, because it would crackle really bad if the volume was low, but if I turn up the volume it still seems to hit without distortion. Then tonight I noticed that it wasn't on at all, so I hit the door panel with my hand, which made it came on but it sounded like crap. It obviously has a connection issue, but I'm not sure if the speaker is blown as well, or if the bad connection could just be making it sound bad. I haven't had time to take the door panel off, so I'm wondering if anybody has had an issue like this. I don't want to replace the speaker if it is good, but the sound of it is clawing it's way into my brain. Suggestions?

Well you wouldn't be the first person with a cracked woofer from what I've seen, but I can't speak from experience.

Honestly, it's not that hard taking off the door, and it sounds like you're going to have to do that to fix the problem regardless of what it is. I'd say just bite the bullet, take off the panel and have a look!

And FYI, the speakers don't use standard connections, but have a clip that plug into the woofer. It seems pretty sturdy, so I'm curious as to where the connection issue might be.

I took the door panel off of my GLS many times, and I could never get it to fit back on correctly, I was hoping to avoid that with my Turbo S.

Really? I'm sorry

I've taken it off twice now and haven't had a problem. What exactly was wrong with it when you put it back on?

The clips would never fully secure. It was bowed out at the point where the two main pieces of the door panel come together. I was really hoping to not have to take anything apart on this Beetle, considering all of the interior pieces that I broke on my last Beetle.
