Default Radio says CODE 3, never says SAFE.

Hello all,

I just bought a 2001 Beetle. Nice car, but I can't get the radio to work.

It always says CODE 3 when I turn on the car. If I press a button the numbers change. Pressing 2 will make it say CODE 3 2. Pressing 1 would make it say CODE 3 1 etc.

I think it used to say CODE 1 and CODE 2.

Pressing 1111 let's me use the radio for a few minutes with a flashing display, and everything works normally during that time.

I have the 4 digit code from the sticker beside the spare tyre.

I've never seen the radio say SAFE.

Can anyone help?

ok i got the radio out

here's the vin: WVWZZZ9CZ1M645757

I'm not sure what radio code you mean, but here is what is on the unit:

Serial NO. 391002190.6.
eurovox
Model 5680VW
VOLTAGE: DC 12V NEGATIVE GROUND
SPEAKER IMPEDANCE 4 OHM

000919 MADE IN JAPAN

Small rectangular sticker on side: B 1512 00

Also there was one of the date stickers that is on most stuff in the car on the dash under the unit
06 04 01
645 2

Next to the paint code and interior code by the spare tyre it has 6268

Hoping I don't have to pay the stealer for this
