Can you post of pics of it during the day?
How much of the vent does the screen cover? My biggest issues with flip up DVD/NAV units is the fact that it blocks the vents. I had one if another car before and it almost completely blocked the vents. Some might say it is not as issue, but it became a problem with the AC. When it comes to running the heater, most people have the windshield and/or the foot vents on. But for AC, people like it blowing right on them and that uses the dash vents. Well, in my other car I would have to run the AC higher just to cool me off because the screen blocked the middle 2 vents. After awhile I found that the back of the screen was basically being frozen by the AC. I don't think it caused any real damage, but it was just annoying.

Has it become more complicated in recent years do to people bypassing it? |

doing the video bypass on radios has become more difficult the past 5 or so years.
each company has its own way of allowing the video to play. on non nav units usually there is a parking brake wire...it connects to the ground signal when the brake is engaged. some company requires a sequence using the one signal...like parking brake applied, released and applied. while others require a combination of signals, like brake and parking break, and a sequence using both. so sometimes two switches must be used. most kenwoods can just be wired to ground to be bypassed. most alpines and pioneer require one or mulitple switches, depending on unit. and some pioneer require actually moving the parking brake wire in the radio harness to a different location. then being grounded. each manufactuer has there own way of allowing video...so they all can use different bypasses. from what i understand some nav units cant be bypassed because it uses the gps signal to translate movement...which wont allow video playback. i think a few "nerds" have figured out how to get past it by changing the binary code for speed. usually video will play at up to 10 or 15 mph. so by getting into the actual system and changing values for speed...you can bypass it. however this will make your speed readout on your nav unit very wrong. so yes. depending on brand and model...performing a video bypass can be quite extensive. do your reasearch before you buy. ive even heard of people soldering things on the internal circuit boards to bypass it...thats seems pretty gutsy to me...esp when they are making the gyroscope inopperable...whats teh point in spending the extra money on a nav unit? |

Wow that is complicated.
My Kenwood I had like in 2000 or 2001, dont remember exactly when, was like you said had a wire labeled parking brake that needed ground or power applied not sure which. 5 extra seconds during installation and bypassed for good. I guess there has been some lawsuits or threatened lawsuits along the way to make companies try any harder to block it. Reminds me of when I wanted to add remote start to my old low rider 5 speed manual nissan truck's viper alarm. Viper said couldn't be done but I did it and it worked great long as I remembered to leave the truck in neutral. I neglected to tell the dealership about it when I traded it in and sadly the next owner's girlfriend was playing with the Viper alarm remote and pushed both buttons in sending the truck through the side of their trailer. The alarm thinking it was a automatic car would keep turning over the motor for like 20 seconds not knowing it was further forcing the truck through the bedroom. True story. |

nicely done.
now directed products...viper, clifford and python can all be put on manual transmission. however you have to put it into reservation mode when existing the vehicle. its basically a sequence of button presses and brake setting and crap like that in a short time period. if you ever have a manual you wanna put a remote start on...go compustar....super easy to put into reservation mode...and keeps you from hoping the car into a porch |

I hardly ever used the remote start as I always had doubt in my head whether it was in gear or not....despite me triple checking to make sure it wasn't when I got out. |
