Default CD changer cable

I just purchased a 2004 New Beetle with a stock stereo that has controls for a CD player, but no CD changer. Would the cable to install the CD changer be already in place, or do I have to figure out how to get it routed? And is there an amp associated with the CD player installation?

Am I better off ditching the stock stereo for something that has Ipod ports, GPS nav capability, etc??

Thanks.

If it has the right console for a center floor console mount, yes the wiring is probably in the harness inside the center floor console.

If it doesn't have that console, then a trunk mount is required, and it may or may not be pre-wired. Trunk mounts were never available in a vert.

BTW - good choice for upgrade, new OEM 6cd Changers, both styles, can be bought for a song and a dance right now. If yours is a CD/SAT Monsoon head unit you probably alread have a MP3 jack. Right underneath the bottom right hand corner of the dash panel where the radio head and a/c controls are located. About an inch back and an inch to the left of the right hand corner. An aftermarket, not for my money! And not of any quality for what you can do this factory upgrade for, esp if you already have the MP3 jack and didn't know it. Most people don't know it's there if they bought the car used, because it's not indicated on the face of the head unit.

There is that whole set-up that was just posted in a thread here somewhere, asking $250, but I'm betting $125 or $150 will buy it.

SEE UPDATE BELOW, Post #4

Exclamation Harness & Mounts - The definative answer!

Update: I have confirmed through a Bentley, courtesy of a newer member, the harness is in ALL NBs and NBCs, and with ALL head units.

Vehicle production thru 7/2002 - In the trunk, with mounting holes under the mat in the trunk.

Vehicle production from 8/2002 - In the center console (apparently also when the console re-design was implemented)

Here, courtesy of my Forum good "Friend", and one of our newer members J.Arce.

I see your new here. You're in the wrong thread. This is a discussion about factory harness for OEM equipment. No harm done, but you'll do better to start a new thread. There are several ppl on here big into aftermarket set-ups who can probably help you.

Just click on the > Car Audio > up above, between the two purple bars. Then click on the "New Thread" in the orange in the lower left corner. Start your thread, give it an applicable title, and enter up to five key words or phrases below the text you enter.
