Default Monsoon - Safe Mode

Hello,

I've searched and read through the threads on safe mode and radio codes but haven't found this specific issue.

The car is a 2004 NB 1.8T convertible with the Monsoon system and factory 6 disc changer in the console.

Over the last several months the radio will randomly go into safe mode and then "fix" itself when it recognizes it's in the original vehicle. This is all happening without disconnecting the power supply. Two days ago it locked up with the "safe 1000" code. Unfortunately we purchased the car used; the radio card was never filled out so I'm going to proceed with the manual reset process by waiting an hour with the key in the accessories position. At some point I'm going to pull the radio to get it's serial number so I can then get the radio code.

My question is does anyone know why the unit would be randomly going in and out? I'd like to figure out the root cause instead of constantly resetting the unit.

Thanks for the help!

usually on radios that say safe mode...it doesnt have to do with the security code...but perhaps the monsoon amp or wiring or speakers is occasionally creating a short. sometimes when a speaker goes bad this can happen....

id bet something is shorting out the amp or radio and causing it to go into protect mode or safe mode. as im pretty sure it gives a different error for wrong code....

hopefully someone else can confirm this

update from yesterday, the radio miraculously fixed itself, before I had a chance to reset it.

I'm wondering about the short thing myself, that seems like a nightmare to try and track down........

Thumbs up

What Sean says certainly makes sense! Esp with yours' being a vert(mine too!), and the occasional caught in the rain.

another update. worked for about 1 minute after startup this morning, then quit. worked fine on the drive home in the afternoon. It almost seems like it might be temperature related? I know that sounds ridiculous but there seems to be more issues when it's cold then when it's warm.....

im not sure about you...

but when i start my car and its cold...condensation tends to build up on my windows and such....

if thats the case for you too...which im guessing it is...

then you probably have a short somewhere...and that condensation is getting to it and "bridging a gap" so to speak, and shorting out the system. then when its dry it probably works....unless your on a bumpy road and it goes out.

so like i said...im leaning towards short.

fun part is...it could be a speaker, the wires in the boot, the amp(if its monsoon) or the radio.

not fun to find somethng like that

It could possibly be Corrosion inside the radio around the Power plug area. Pull the radio out and pop off the bottom cover and see if that's the problem.
