Default Thinking of reusing some old audio stuff

I have a JL Audio 10 inch sub and a small Alpine amp that I yanked out before I let my old 350z get repo'ed back in 2006 (don't ask) and it's been sitting in my parent's garage ever since.

With my Beetle having a aftermarket radio already (with rca out) its been in the back of my mind to install it if they even still work.

You guys that have installed a sub - how was the rattle?

Reason I ask is the previous owner replaced the door speakers and rear speakers and yanked out the dash speakers and left the spots empty for some reason and covered the dash holes with little inserts. Now, I deal with rattles from you guessed it: The dash, the front door panels, and the rear quarter panels.

The rattle changes up every time I drive the car. Today it was the dash and yesterday it was the passenger door.

With my luck, putting a sub in the car will just make all 5 spots rattle in unison

My wife's Bug rattles too (no sub yet). It rattles worse than my 99 Dodge Ram 4X4 with the notorious cracked dash. Sometimes the speakers cause it to rattle, but most of the time it just rattles everywhere while driving.

I'm going to strip the interior of her car soon to give it a good cleaning, strip off all that nasty interior "paint" on the plastic parts, and also try and find a way to reduce the rattling on the panels. I know there's a felt tape out there that can be used in between panel and over insert gromets to reduced rattles but I don't know where to buy it.

Found some!

Amazon.com: JVCC FELT-06 Polyester Felt Tape (1mm thick felt): 3/4 in. x 25 yds. (Black): Home Improvement

Use that where plastic panels tough other plastic panels, use on gromets and inserts, etc.

Other ideas for treating the interior rattles in these cars are welcome.

We have a limitless roll of the soft and hard sides of velcro here at work and it's crossed my mind to grab a good length of the soft side and use it underneath some of the plastic panels that a touch of my finger stops the rattling.

I'm mainly concerned that a sub thumping would just sound absolutely horrible inside the car as every plastic piece shakes in horror.

I've tried the soft side of velcro before in my truck and found it to be a little too thick for most applications. The problem I ran into was putting the velcro behind a plastic panel that snaps over another one added just the right amount of space in between the two that the clips were not able to seat all the way in and the panel would work it's way back off.

The only rattle I have in my car is the damn door locks. When I turn up the volume they just drive me insane.

Hatch doesn't ratter much, The only thing annoying is the mirror. Everything rattles in my car haha, but doesn't make any sound really.

On songs with high sub notes, the mirror is annoying. But thats it.

But overall it sounds REALLY good. Beetles are really good with subs.

I might be able to take another one tomorrow after work, with a song that has high notes. Those are what really cause the buzzing sounds.
