If I purchase a new OEM center console CD changer and install it into an '05 system that has the Monsoon HU that will play MP3 discs will I be able to play MP3 discs with the CD changer also, or can only Audio CD's (CDA format, not MP3) be used in the changer?
The answer to this may be contained in this .pdf of the Supplemental Owner's Manual Booklet for the 6cd Changer http://newbeetle.org/forums/attachme...layer-xxxx.pdf Also, the wiring for the changer is in the armrest but will everything still work in the sound system? My car has OEM XM satelite radio, will a CD changer still work in this setup. Yes, here is a .pdf of the Owner's Manual Booklet for the Premium Sound System you have http://newbeetle.org/forums/attachme...emium-2004.pdf Does anyone know of a "Sync" type of hookup (one that plugs into the CD changer plug) that will allow a person to hook up an MP3 player (or USB flashdrive) and play the MP3 files off these devices. Can't help you! My car has the AUX input but the volume is way too quiet even with the volume turned all the way up on the MP3 player. Is there a setting via VCDS (Vag-com) that will adjust the volume levels of the different inputs of the factory HU (there is no setting via holding the MIX button for the AUX port)? I don't have the answer, but there was a recent thread in regards to programming the min volume, I did not continue to follow it.
See comments above.

If you've got VAGCOM can you let me know your coding so I can compare it to mine and see if it's my cable (I've bought 3...) or my coding? I REALLY want to plug up my MP3 player.... (tho maybe the "quiet volume" is the problem...)

Can it play music that is burned onto a MUSIC CDR or is it not capable of playing any burned media at all i.e. only purchased pressed audio CD's? If it's the latter the CD changer seems a waste of money in a car where the HU is capable of playing MP3 discs. |

radio code - VW Forum :: Volkswagen Forum On my HU I press the CD button (without a disc in the radio) and it shows AUX on the display and takes input from the AUX port. I think it will cycle through the CD player and AUX option if a disc is in the radio, but I am not positive. |

I hooked up VCDS (VAGCOM) and looked at the coding in my car (wasn't as scary as I thought).
My car is a 2005 with the Monsoon system with Satelite radio also - no CD changer (yet??). The one line in VCDS (VAGCOM) says 1C0 035 196P Radio DE2 0003 The 196P may be 19CP, was in a hurry when I wrote it down. Anyway my coding say 06031 So 06 - New Beetle 0 - Premium V or Premium VI (Monsoon) 3 - Premium V (Monsoon) 2-door or Premium VI (Monsoon) 1 - Without CD Player/Changer My car has a CD player in the HU but it doesn't have a changer, I am assuming the 1 refers strictly to a changer in my case. Be aware, the radio needs to be turned on when you go into it with VCDS (VAGCOM) (key also needs to be on - engine not nescessary). VCDS (VAGCOM) will put the radio into a diagnostic mode and the speakers will start thumping and the volume knob has no control over the thumping. While I was in there I did a code scan with VCDS (VAGCOM) and found out why my AM no longer works fault 0856 Radio Antenna 36-00 Open Circuit I don't know if it's the radio itself or the anteanna mount/base, I did remove the mount/base and took it apart and there was quite a bit of corosion on the circuit boards so I am assuming it the base. I tried cleaning the corosion off with contact cleaner but that didn't help - it didn't hurt either, FM and the satelite receiver still work. It looks like the water got in near the top of the mount where the mast screws in, the plastic shell of the mount has a crack in it that goes across where the metal "bung" is where the mast screws in. I may revert to just an AM/FM base as the cost of the Satelite Radio/AM/FM mount is outrageus and I cancelled my subsciption 6 months ago anyway. |

I have an 03 TDI with premium am fm cass and cd button. I bought a new 6 CD armrest changer. Checked plug in armrest for 12v and ground. Have ground but no 12v, even with cd button on. Do I need to get a VAGCOM to tell the stereo I have a cd for 12 volt to plug?

Jorge (Tico4Life) is a generation back, probably does, and just put this unit in his '04 Vert. Drop him a p/m and ask him. If he happens to see I have posted up here, he may read and reply. He's a great, helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable member on here. Not that there are not others, so no one take offense, please. MORAV |

His unit has the auxillary jack already built in, and working, under the AUX call up, which he may or may not know. The jack is below all the controls in the center dash console. Right front corner, about 1" back and 1" to the left from the right side. (underneath) For those without it, I have seen numerous posts regarding aftermarkets that have been purchased, wanting to know if they will work, but to date have seen no one post follow up that theirs did, if it were a poster taht bought one. Of course none were the OEM $179 variety. MORAV |

OEM CD changers will NOT play mp3 files, they are however capable of playing homemade cd's as long as the files are not compressed. Learned that after buying mine and installing it. In retrospective I would have bought the ipod controller instead, it plugs into the same harness as the changer. Oh well, that's what happens when you buy on impulse
EDIT: Sorry I forgot to mention, iPod/mp3 adapters are found all over ebay and the web. http://www.google.com/m?hl=en&gl=us&...w+ipod+adapter Don't you have the aux plug under the radio? I thought 05's w/ monsoon mp3 hu had it

Yes, I have an AUX port on my car but I mentioned in the first post the volume output when using the AUX port is way off compared to the other input sources on the HU, even with the MP3 player turned all the way up. The volume on the HU needs to be cranked way up to get any decent amount of volume out of it. I don't know if it is the MP3 player or the cable, I have a "boombox" radio that has a line input on it and it is also very quiet when using the MP3 player. I have tried another cable but I get the same results. The volume limiter on the MP3 player is turned off so I am getting the full range of volume output on the MP3 player. I am going to have to look at the specs for the MP3 player and decide if it is worth trying one of the high end cables. |

I have an iPod touch first gen that I bought when they first came out and I wouldn't change for any other device in the world, that's where all my music is. I tried it in my friend's Toyota Tundra and I thought the volume level/audio quality was not the best. I have also read here about ppl complaining that the audio and volume level is lame with the OEM aux input. I own a harman kardon go+play and a Sony HD radio alarm clock and they both sound great when the ipod is either docked or hooked with the audio cable. I also plug in my androide phone to listen to internet radio and the audio is very good. If you get the mp3 adaptor you loose the cd changer option, just FYI. Now if you don't care about keeping the car stock, get an aftermarket hu with ipod and usb hookups and you'll have better audio quality. Your monsoon radio can fetch you at least $200 on ebay. |

).Another possibility would be to find (or build) an amplifier to raise the output of the headphones out port on the MP3 player to the AUX input specs of the factory HU. The antenna mount on the car also went to pot (corrosion on the boards inside the plastic shell) so if I decide to have just AM/FM and drop the Satelite Radio functionality (I cancelled my subscription about six maonths ago) The aftermarket HU will be more appealing. |

I went thru the trouble of finding an original monsoon mp3 HU only because we want to keep the original looks of the car. It's our joy rider (3rd car) so we don't use it that much. I think if I were to do anything for mp3 player would be a quality aftermarket adapter that would charge the mp3 player so wires are out of sight and be able to control the device from the HU.
