Post girly girl or ipod socket dork?

I recently bought a 2005 NBC and am having the most fun driving it around. In reading the manual I found where I have a aux socket for my ipod. I have seen it under the dash and was so excited to be able to play my itouch. I have a cord that I used in my 2009 Honda that played it just fine; however; it does not fit the NB. There is no " click" when I plug the cord in. Is there a special cord for VW? I have read that it is a standard 3.5, if so can the socket be broken? Thanks for any and all advice and help.
