Question

John,

Here is the information I have, excerpted from Resellers (some) who have put up interchange information for their headunits.

There was a wiring change of some kind (as the result of a head unit change) beginning with '04 VIN ending 410661, in Mid 2004. These units also require (according to their information) dealer unlocking if units are not unlocked and no code is provided. There is a thread regarding a source for obtaining this code at a minimal cost via the internet. I had a similar situation in a GM product where there was a wire in the old harness that wasn't in the new harness (or visa versa I was swapping between two vehicles I owned), and when I clipped the wire the radio worked and all features functioned properly. Didn't work until I did.

Everyone who I have read about, attempting to do the swap you are talking about, has had issues. And I don't recall anyone who simply did a p&p swap with complete success.

My thoughts are, if you can buy the headunit reasonable enough to be okay if you resell it, give it a try. You CAN install ANY 6cd Changer (remote) Trunk Unit (not to be confused with the console unit, although it will p&p also) with your existing head unit. The harness, and mounting holes for the bracket, ARE in your trunk, and ALL years interchange.

Btw, the unit you are referring to, was installed starting in '05 (possibly even in the later '04s), with the remote jack. The jack was just moved from under the center dash console, to in the face of the console just to the left of the glove box door.

Hope this helps.

What are the issue you speak of? I put an '06 with CD in my '03 it seemed to work ok after putting in the code. It been 6 month to a year since I did it, but I was playing with the fade and balance and found that the front left dash speaker isn't working. I thought I may have a bad monsoon amp? Never really played with it with the cassette head in it.

Was the '06 Monsoon going into an '03 Monsoon? The amp is separate from the head unit in the Monsoon system, if you didn't go M2M, you now lack the amp. A speaker going out is probably just that, not the Monsoon amp if in fact you have an amp powering the speaker. I'm not sure, but the amp may be different from year to year nad model to model, as I believe there was a 6 speaker system, and I know there was an 8 and a ten.

Yes, monsoon to monsoon. It was from an 06 vert if that makes a difference.

Not sure if the amps are the same. The '06 Vert should have had a ten speaker system. No way your vehicle does. But again, should not have anything to do with the speaker being "out". I guess IF the speakers each (or in pairs) have separate outputs from the amp it would be possible.
