Ok I know alot of you have aftermarket stereos in your beetle. I went by a stereo shop here locally (big name). they quoted $2000 for a deck and speakers. They said something about a Monsoon system needing special wiring. They also said the same thing to a buddy about his BMW.
So my question is most decks are 40w or so per channel so why use the Monsoon amp? How are did you hook it up? I have some blown speakers and just want decent sound, no thump.

If you want to use the monsoon amp, just connect the speaker outs to it. That is how the factory radio is hooked up.
If you do it that way the door speakers only get low frequencies and the dash speakers only get upper end. If you want to connect the speakers directly to the radio it should not be difficult to run wires to all the locations from the dash. |

I personally would not wire aftermarket speakers to the stock monsoon amp. Usually the frequency cut offs are all wrong for full range speakers and it could also be the wrong ohm load.
If you want to keep your stock head unit and have aftermarket speakers, I recommend getting a line out converter and an aftermarket amp to power you new speakers. I don’t see that setup costing anywhere close to 2k. If you are planning on swapping our the head unit, you can just run your new speakers from the head unit itself.

actually the ohm load is easier than it may seem if i remember correctly. vw on thier 2 ohm speakers had 4 wires going to them and on thier 4 ohm speakers had 2 wires going to them. so getting the correct speakers should actually not be to difficult.

For 2K that system better ROCK. Ask them if they know about the - K line. Honestly, get a nice deck and install it yourself. Monsoon integration is as simple as an appropriate VW harness.

![]() Ebay is awash with speakers. Think i changed mine in my other Bug about 4 times. Never spent a lot. Last set were JL Audio > $100 sounded true and crisp ![]() Just to add: " Lot more wiring to do " RUBBISH !! I actually found the Bug wiring to be very simple compared to a lot of other cars i've had ![]() |
