Default Center console cd changer

Please help! I purchased a center console mounted cd changer from a guy on ebay. I have a 03 VW beetle convertible. The instructions he had do not pertain to the convertible. I was able to loosen the plug (somewhat) that is inside the center console, but I cannot plug it into the plug attached to the CD changer...it will not fit! Anybody know how to do this? I also tried taking apart the console but wasn't able to get the plastic off all the way. Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

I don't know if this will help at all but I just installed a Phatbox in my '06 NB which plugs into the same CD changer harness and I had one hell of a time trying to fit those two plugs together! They would plug into each other about 1/2 of the way and then stop. I had to double check the pins inside because it felt just like they were not meant to connect. It took me at least 10 minutes of pushing, wiggling, prying and finally I was able to get it to plug in all the way! I think the pins inside have to be lined up exactly or it will not go.

Putting my center console CD changer in was a PITA. I had to take part of the console apart to get my hands in there so I could connect it. But what took me a while to realize, is there is a plastic cover on the wireing harness that is in the car. That might be your problem.

Mine just bit the dust, well, sorta . It plays the cd's, but I can't eject any of the cd's, so got another one coming under warranty. They send it back to the factory and they mail your cd's back to u within a week, cool...

I am trying to get the plastic peice off now. Is it just a pulling motion? I feel like it is cemented on there!

Why they installed the clip where they did I'll never know. Here is a pic of what the clip looks like:

When I removed mine I can't remember whether I pulled up, or pulled toward the back seat. Either way you shouldn't be able to hurt anything. Try to be gentle.
