Default rattle in Monsoon door speaker...

Our NB Sport has developed a rattle at specific frequencies in the door recently. The car has a warranty and the speaker is supposed to be covered. The dealer said the speaker was 131.00 and had an amp on it??? Has anyone heard of the Monsoon speakers having an amp on the door speakers themselves? The speaker will be replaced free by our warranty, but 131.00 dollars for one speaker seemed like a total rip off by the dealer. We could buy a nice set of Infinity Reference speakers for that price and then some.

Also, how hard is it to change out the head unit for an aftermarket mp3 player like Pioneer or Kenwood? I looked at Crutchfield and they say they send you everything you need, but in some of these posts I see reference to a "dreaded K wire" What is the "K" wire???

Thanks

The door speakers are just woofers (no high frequencies, and no, they don't have any amps on the speaker itself. So, if you are going to replace the door speakers with aftermarket, don't bother with tweeters.

Let the dealer replace the speaker if it's free.

As for the "K" wire, it's part of the security system. It's been known to fry dealer's diagnostic equipment when trying to scan vehicles with aftermarket stereo's. Just make sure to put an end cap on it if you change the stock for an aftermarket one.

If I put speakers with tweets in them, is there a crossover in the Monsoon amp that doesn't let those frequencies through, or is there a low pass cross over somewhere else? Have you changed out your HU for something else? What we're really wanting is some way to play mp3's without sticking an adapter in the tape deck that sounds crummy.

Yes, the monsoon has a crossover built in for the door woofers. Unless you add an amp, you won't get any high notes from the doors.

I'm still running the stock head unit. I bought a VWCDPIC that allows me to use the existing CD changer plug as an RCA input. Then I ran a cable up to above my cup holders to use my MP3 player from there. There are other options for enabling your NB to play MP3's. Here is all the information you need to know: Enabling your NB to play MP3s.

Is it the speaker rattling, or the door itself? I find that my actual door (inside) vibrates considerably during specific bass frequencies. I am planning on getting dynamat put in the insides of the doors if I decide to keep the car.

You know, I think it is the door panel that is rattling and not the speaker. This all seemed to start after I got the windows tinted the other day and they removed the door panels. We removed the panel to the drivers door a couple of days ago and turned up the volume and bass and the speaker seemed to sound ok. Push on the panel when the volumes up and it seems to stop rattling. Are there fasteners that need to be replaced that might be getting old and not holding the door??

Any one have any luck with replacing the door fasteners and clearing up rattles or is dynamat the answer? I have heard it does alot for sound quality.
