Cool

Go to the Service Advisor at you local VW dealer and ask for 2 minutes with the "shop foreman". That's the head mechanic in that garage and chances are that he/she knows what to do about it. I seriously doubt that you need a new head unit after changing the battery...

when the power to your head unit is disconnected, the unit goes into a sort of safe mode. In order to get it out of that mode you need a code. This would come in your user manual, or do as suggested and go to the shop and see if you can get one, and instructions on how to do it.
