Thumbs up iPod adapter...Love it!!

Hi! Just got my Original VW ipod Adapter installed yesterday and I Love it! Sound is fantastic and it is hidden away in the glove box. The service dept at VW had it done quickly too. Just want to beam in and say how happy I am with the install and purchase~

I haven't seen the actual adapter (I'm actually trying to track it down right now on VW.com, and I can't seem to find it), but doesn't having it in the glove box make in sort of hard to control while driving?

You control it with the headunit when you have the official ipod adapter installed.

Do lose the CD changer? Can you still use the satellite radio by chance?

What if you have the ghetto tape player VW decided they needed to put in their Beetles when no one actually even buys tapes anymore? Will that work?

Does anyone know if the adapter will work with another brand of mp3 player?

Yes, it will work. I believe it plugs in, in the spot that's used for the cd changer behind the head unit.

No, not this particular adapter. There is another that they sell( I don't know if vw sells it) that plugs into one of the empty slots behind the head unit, and this adapter plugs into the headphone jack of I believe any mp3 player. Though with this adapter you won't be able to control the mp3 player through the stock head unit.

OoOoOoOo really? So do you just pull the head unit out and plug the adapter in? How much does such adapter cost?

I always just use the one that goes in the tape player and has the cord that plugs into the top of the iPod. Every few months they take a crap on me and I have to buy a new one. I bought a Belkin one at Target tonight that is supposed to work with the buttons on your tape player. But there is no play or pause or next button on our tape players. And the thing really stinks anyway. When one song is over instead of going to the next it plays it again. And using the skip button on the tape player does nothing but "fast forward" the tape. Waste of $25!!

Yeah just pullout the stereo and plug it in and just route the cable to your glovebox(or where ever you want too) and yer done.
Yeah I hate those tape adapters.

Here's an OEM ipod adapter on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NEW-O...spagenameZWDVW Looks like this one runs about $150. Or you might want to call VW and ask how much they go for there.

Oh man...That was funny. I have a tape player in my '07 Highlander Hybrid.

Yup. With a in dash CD Changer, but still. State of the art SUV, with state of the art technology, and yet, a analog tape player.

Yup.

Just for the records: The part number of that Volkswagen interface is 1K0051444

Two different sets of harness that directly plug into the HU are included (1x Mini ISO - that one is used in NB; 1x Quadlock - used in current Golf).
That interface will work with every iPod that comes with a "Dock Connector"

I'm using it myself since some weeks: works perfect.

I did some additional diy as I didn't want to remove my hu - I made a small adapter that adds the plug of a Volkswagen CD changer to that interface.
Installation only took less than 10 minutes:
Removed the CD changer from my armrest /center console
Plugged in that adapter instead

Why?!?!?!

Seriously, I stopped buying tapes in, like, 1993!!! Who buys tapes anymore?! C'mon people! Get with it. Do they think they'll have a lot of complaints if they took the dumb tape player out?

You would be amazed at how many people still listen to books on tape in their cars. Tapes are still kinda mainstream in the audio book world.
