Never used one, but it's on my list of things i want.
DON'T get a cheap one, no mater how tempting.
Get one that is dishwasher safe for your sanity.
Get one that it would be impossible for the lid to blow off. They make ones where the lid actually has to go inside the pot and when the pressure builds, the lid just pushes on the lip of the pot and just flat-out can't go anywhere.
See if they have one with a "safe" quick release valve.

See if you can get an old one on ebay even.

And for heaven's sake, don't try to open a hot pressure cooker. I shouldn't even have to explain why.

The food should be good from what i understand. It has a tendency to tenderize meats and should drastically reduce cooking times.

how cool is that. i got one this weekend. i don't like to read but i guess i should look at the directions and hope to use it sometime this week.

on a side note- eating nothing but greasy food all day, going to the fair and being dropped from really high, then watching Jackass is not good for the tummy... otherwise i might have tried to play with my cooker last night my husband likes chicken thighs but they usually take forever. that will probably be my first experiment. mwa ha ha ha.

I love pressure cookers--especially for veggies--you use so little water that you don't cook away "the good stuff" with all that boiling water. It also gets hotter than just boiling and there are some little beasties that can survive boiling, but not pressure cooking. Pressure canners are a must when canning corn--otherwise you have to boil a very long time. Corn is one thing that is just dangerous (bacteria) to can w/o a pressure canner. I know some people who pressure cook their ribs before grilling--I dunno whether that works well or not since I am not a fan of ribs.
