Has anyone done a 2.0T for a 1.8T? What is involved?

Wouldn't it be cheaper and easier to go BT on the 1.8T?

I would think so. Isn't the 2.0t running a higher compression ratio as well? Limiting the gains without some additional internal mods (pistons)?

2.0t is a much better engine to tune...i would not swap it if i already had a 1.8t but if i was going to swap a 2.0 for a turbo engine i would pick the 2.0t over the 1.8t anyday

Has anyone even done the swap yet? My 1.8t is utter crap due to it being a used motor and am looking for options atm on what to do with the car.

if you already have a 1.8 why not just put another 1.8 in it. it is a direct and very easy swap. just find the same year engine code then swap it and plug it in.

I went in the middle and bored mine to a 1.9t, could go up to a 2.1t if I got a stroker kit.

It is exactly the piston design and FSI that allow for massive power gains in this engine. The two combined allow for a cooling effect allowing the engine to run much higher compression.

I haven't seen any 2.0T swaps into older chassis (yet), not sure of the specifics on it though. I'm sure you'd be looking at transmission, wiring harness, fuel system (if any upgrades needed, the Mk5s do run a fuel filter with an internal pressure regulator), intercooler (as they are front-mount, would probably need an upgraded sidemount for this application)...

Figure it'd run a few bucks to do it, not sure of the return on "investment" but the 2.0T FSI is a peach of an engine, I will attest that from personal experience.

Depending on the motivation:

A 1.4TSI (the one from a Golf MK5 GT) would be equal on HP and torgue but much better on milage.
The 2.0 TFSI would be more powerful but not better on milage.

and there is no good way to bi-turbo anything with single manifolds. you end up wasting boost produced by one of the turbos and you get better response from just doing one giant turbo. and i agree to just keep the 1.8t and put some money into it. like they said you could bore it out to a 2.0 and add a bigger turbo, front mount, and chip it and be looking at way more hp and torque than the 2.0t with a lot less money im sure.

Default 2.0l FSI bottom end with 1.8t 20v head

Is this a 2.0 FSI short block with a 20v 1.8t head? I am building a engine for my 85 jetta and I have a 2.0l FSI engine and a 1.8t engine. So I was thinking 2.0t 20v I've got the 1.8t at the machine shop now and I'm about to start tearing the FSI engine down. any thoughts or has anyone seen this done before
