The timing belt slipped and my valves are toast. Can I buy and install a head from an Audi 1.8t? I can find several of those online. I believe mine has 20v, are they interchangeable?

I believe some would be. In the NB at least, in '01 there would be a few and '99 and '00 should work, but most '01 would be a later engine design that had variable valve timing--I don't know when it started in other vehicles. So if you can figure out how to identify that (I don't know) you could be on your way.

Do you know your head is toast? Mine was repaired 6 months ago and seems to do well under pressure (lead foot disease). Mine went at about 60mph. Only had to replace 4 valves. A shop is MUCH cheaper than a stealer. You should look into it. Good luck.

YES! you can!

get a 96-98 head if you can, they flow the best. easy upgrade right there, will give you more power if you modify.

Thanks for all the replies. I don't know how many valves are bent but suspect it is quite a few. It died going down hill and I popped the clutch a couple of times trying to get it going again. My mechanic is not the fastest guy in the world but he's good and honest. I wouldn't take this to the dealer here for anything, he's the loser of losers. This is a small city and it'd be tough to locate something local, I think. Would this one work for me?

He tells me my engine is APH. Are you reasonably sure this will work without any modification?

All I know is that if justin says it will work then it will work, he's a vw dictionary of knowledge.

oh it will.

when i build customer motors (unless it's a tt225), i always use the aeb head as it's the best flowing head...means you get more air going through...means more powah!

i've been doing this too long to not know that it'll work.

500's not a bad price at all.

vortex members use these heads on the 2.0 block to make some sick power combos...i still haven't figured out how that works, but hey, i guess it does.

the trick is to find one as clean as possible with as low miles as possible.

What does it normally cost to have one rebuilt? I'm assuming that the valves need to be replaced on mine, is that an expensive proposition? Is there more to it than that? Is my old core worth something?
