Exclamation 99 2.0 gas swap for ???

I potentially want to swap the engine out of my 99 2.9l gas for something that I can actually tune up and maybe use for legal street racing.... anybody know of any good swaps i can do, doesnt have to be a vw engine could be mitsubishi (japanese), anything that will fit with little modification.

How much power do you want? Trade up to a 1.8T and up to 300HP is fairly easy to obtain--more than that can get uber-expensive.

Or swap in a VR6 and VF Supercharge it for 350+ HP and lots of torque or turbocharge it--there are some "daily driven" turbo VR6 cars with 500 HP. What are your goals?

One thing though...if you mention putting a Mitsubishi engine in a VW again we will disown you!

I am highly considering the 1.8t, the vr6 sounds like fun, but I have to admit, the evo 7 engine is really nice. im thinking about 400 hp would be a nice goal, nobody would see that comin from a bug, especially in my area

I was a bit skeptical about 'legal' street racing till I read this: Legal Nighttime Street Racing in San Diego - Sport Compact Car Magazine

I hope you mean something like this else the mods are going to come down hard on you ..

fcuk the vr.

fcuk the 1.8t.

2.5 from an 06-up beetle, then boost it. that's where the new generation is heading. it's ALL torque man, i've driven the 2.5t rabbit on 034 and it's BRUTAL. it doesn't even rev past 6000rpm either. audi got 340hp stock in the tt-rs with just mild headwork and a k03 garbage turbo.

maybe not in WI, but it is far from new--been done many times. In fact, check out this current eBay auction:

Volkswagen : Beetle - New:eBay Motors (item 200383958182 end time Sep-24-09 09:20:50 PDT)

HPA 550HP VR6 twin turbo all wheel drive NB, sounds like fun to me...your evo 7 would be sucking this car's dust until it was so far behind all the dust had settled--as Helga says, "You got an "F"!"

Yes.. I agree.

This horse has been beaten many times . People assume that VW Beetles NEED to be made better with things from OTHER cars because apparently VWs, especially Beetles can't perform.

The time, money, headaches, bloody fingers and hands, and other unpleasantness can all be avoided if you just buy a Honda or Toyota... maybe even a Chevy and rice that up instead (hmmm that's a thought.. a riced up Chevy!)

Leave VW alone... especially Beetles.. they are severely allergic to 'ricing'...

Just my 2 cents ...

Best thing you could do is find a Mk.IV ('99-'05) Jetta or Golf that was hit in the rear and totalled, but is a runner. The NB and these cars are built on the same platform, so mechanically it's a pretty straight swap, the electrics are a bit different and the challenge would prolly be getting the NB instrumentation working with you new heart. It's been done several times already so I'm sure there is info to find or people to consult.
