Default VR6 Swap Labour

Hey guys,

How hard is it for a professional mechanic to install the motor? Is it a straight drop-in, or do you need a lot of custom work?

How many hours labour approx?

Thanks!

SMG

Was that the HPA with a 4-wheel drivetrain swap from a TT as well? Possibly that's what took so long.

Wow, talk about back from the dead.

I'm supercharged now and I can hang with my friend's VR6. A mechanic friend quoted me $1000 to drop a VR6 in and he'd need it for a week. That doesn't include the front-clip of a wrecked MK4 VR6 obviously, so a 2.0T setup is the way to go.

Hmmmm, so which flavour ice cream should I get to honour all my labour and good behaviour to my neighbour today?

No worries, I've got Scotch in me (grandfather came from Nova scotia, Clan Shaw) and my grandmother is from England. I tend to use proper English grammar on occasion as well.
Bill's just being sarcastic. Again.

LOL! Yeah, I'm from Nova Scotia and I've been known to have scotch in me from time to time. I wonder if we're related.

Jop - the HPA swap included a 4Motion installation - so this was somehow like a complete RSI conversion.

Here in germany the 2.0 Turbo conversion (leading to aprox. 205hp and 300Nm torque) would cost about 4000€ (that's about 5,500$). An used 3.2l VR6 Engine (comming out of an Audi TT, A3 or Golf R32) costs, completely with gearbox, 4Motion, wiring, ECU and so on) about the same - providing 250hp and 300Nm. With this engine, you've got a lot more potential. A VR6 Bi Turbo gives you sweeeeet ~600hp and 710Nm (limited) and with a changed gearbox over 320km/h topspeed (that's about 200mph)... Even the "small" turbo (400hp/500Nm) wins on the quater mile against a GT3

The negative aspect is - you have to change a lot. Starting with the engine mounts (well this is the easy part - just take the ones from the Golf MK4 R32 as the Beetle is built on this platform), going over to the Haldex and ending at the bottom of the trunk (you need more space for the rear axis and the fuel tank (which has to be taken from a Golf mk4 4 Motion / Quattro platform - as the axis needs more space ). Overall - I guess it's worth the pain. I'd love to do such an conversion. Well - it's planned - as soon as I got enogh time

Sounds like a plan - looking forward how the result will look like.
