Thumbs up swaping a 1.8t in to 2.0 beetle

it is hard???? or just direct swap in??? i want to swap the 1.8t with auto tranny

would the auto tranny hold 250 hp?????

what else do i have to change rather than the engine and the computer?

how much is the vr6 cost ,relieable? how much hp can i get from it?

cuz the 1.8t can do 250 hp

tranny will hole about 300hp until you start having trouble. they use the same tranny so it should just be a direct swap and ECU change you might need to change the front wiring harness up a bit im not compleatly sure. should be fairly simple. but i ask why not a VR swap for the money

I have read through the thread on vwvortex on VR6 swap, and it seems it is quite alot of work! I have the 2.0 in my beetle too, and i am also thinking about making a 1.8T swap only with a manual tranny instead of a automatic, so any inputs on how much work is involved etc. would be greatly appreciated!

there so many thing that needed to be change

more power = need more brake power. all the upgrade brake is for 1.8t not for 2.0.

you also have to past the air care

last the tranny you put a 1.8t in because you want more power so the stock one wouldn't last long.

save the money it would take to do it, and trade it in on a turbo. too much hassle. i'm a certified vw tech...

Honestly, the 1.8t is such a quirky motor with a million different things that can go wrong on a daily basis, that I'd rather have a supercharged 2.0 or a VR6. The sad part is that all of the techs I've spoken with have pretty much admitted that the 1.8t is a high maintenance motor. My car has just a tick over 60k miles and has been in the shop for turbo related issues much more than it has been out if the shop, that's not to say that I don't love the car. When it's running well, it's simply a brilliant engine. Would I do a 1.8t swap? Not on your life! If you want a turbo, sell your car and buy a factory equipped 1.8t, you'll thank yourself later.

Im buying a 2.0 manual transmission and I found a turbo kit for it.

I would probably go that route.

Too bad these engines are 16V like my Neons were

Where did you find a turbo for the 2.0?....how much was it? I am interested in doing a supercharger....but if the turbo is more cost effective....I'll go that route! I ordered my ZEX dry nitrous kit....but I don't want to put it in until I get the Turbo or supercharger.

I too have a 2.0, but its a 98. I need to know if this kit will work and is it worth it.

#1 turboing a 2.0 is a waste of money, i dropped over 2k into both of mine, they both popped, and both were still slow before hand.

#2 "don't build a car you can buy" its not worth the time or money or headache that can follow a swap

#3 putting a vr into your car is easier than putting a 1.8t in. The engine harness is modular so theres no real wiring to change, just make sure the motor you get is the same year or newer than your car to meet the specification to make it legal.

There are alot of other little quirks depending on years etc. but thats all easily overcome

I have swapped a 1.8 into a 2.0. The nuts and bolts work is easy, takes 2 days, i used an audi a3 box on my engine, but i also used an audi tt 225 engine for the swap. I'm running just over 300bhp. The problem with engine swaps in these modern cars is the wiring, you have to have your ecu unlocked to bypass the immobiliser, cus my car was a 1999 model the big plug on the ecu had to be cut off and every individual wire has to be re connected into the plug, the plugs changed in 2000. Another problem with the 2.0 is the cable throttle, but any electric pedal from the vag range will do the job, mine is from a seat leon cupra r. Unless you can do the wiring and mechanical work yourself it will cost a lot of money. And my biggest problem is 300bhp through front wheel drive is wheelspinning through 3rd gear. Hope this helps.

Well i have done the VR6 swap whit twin turbo's and trust me ... i will never in my life time do a other one ... its alot of work and alot of wire work . plus its a nice feeling to spin you weels in 4th gear but just think of how manny tire's you pass .

one summer 3 set's of tire's .. and thats just trying to drive normal . your going to spend more in gas !! plus onece you have the taste of speed you whant more power and next thing you notice you spent 10,000$ on just the motor !

so to me its not worth the motor swap ... just get a Beetle whit the 1.8 turbo .

It would be far cheaper, much easier and extremely less hassle to sell your car and buy one with a 1.8T already in it.

if you're gonna swap anything, do a vr6.

fin.

a 1.8t swap is like bringing a knife to a gunfight...makes no damn sense. you can buy a 1.8t cheaper.
