Default Groundhog Day in Punxsutawney with the Traveling Marmots

Hi guys-
Anyone going to see Phil this Groundhog Day (Feb. 2)?
Beej (kgirl) and I met/got engaged/got married on Groundhog Day in "Punxsy" (2003, 2005, 2007) so it is our ritual to celebrate the various anniversaries by hanging out with the crowd of 20-40,000 atop Gobbler's Knob. Its a pretty cool party- 3am to ca. 7:15am when Phil makes his prognostication.

We met in 2003 when we were the only .org folks to show up for a Groundhog Day GTG- it would be really cool if we could have a small get-together this year. There are lots of breakfast buffets after the prognostication and dinner options the night before. If you need a spot to stay, the community center offers a crashpad for 5 bucks (bring a mat and sleeping bag). Great bit of Americana! Anyone game?

The day we met, we bought a couple groundhog puppets and have been driving our bugs and taking pictures of the groundhogs everywhere we go, ever since. We applied for our own club chapter last year after we found some folks in Colorado and in Germany who also take stuffed groundhogs/marmots along on their travels. A few of our New Beetle friends have taken to carrying a marmot as well. We'd love more members- all you need is a woodchuck and a camera- or just an enduring appreciation for roadtrips and cheese

Here's a facebook page for the chapter I put up this week:

and one for the event:

Remember shadow= 6 more weeks of winter, no shadow= early spring

If Candlemas be fair and bright,
Come, Winter, have another flight;
If Candlemas brings clouds and rain,
Go Winter, and come not again.

One of these years I'll make it to celebrate my birthday on The Knob. Sadly it won't be this year, but I'll let you know for sure when I can! It would totally rock to spend it with you guys!

we'd love to have you!

I guess it is pretty short notice for most besides the cold- and especially since the prediction falls on a Monday morning. Maybe next year?

Happy anniversary!

I wish that I could come, but I canīt, because I live in Finland (too long journey for me and my Bug)

Btw, have you seen a great movie named "Groundhog Day"?
The leading actors are Bill Murray and Andie MacDowell, which both are good. I donīt want to reveal whole story, but I can tell that movie is a romantic comedy. It was filmed 1993.

I like this film very much

I too got married on Groundhog day..

I still wake up with the nightmare that that day was going to repeat itself over and over and over and over and over again.

I'm happily divorced now! it only took 4 months for the marriage to fail

check out the aptly-named towtruck that parked next to us at the Sheetz in Indiana, PA
oh- the camera was out of batteries, so used the mac- but unless you use the mirror function, text comes out backwards- eh, she looks kind of neat, so I didn't crop it.
