Question I am thinking of planning a GTG in Dayton

And I am wondering what is the best way to go about it? I have never done anything like this before.

What I have come up with so far is a Aviation type theme concentrating on the Wright Bros.

Here in Dayton I have the Air Force Museum, Wright Bros. Bicycle Shop, Wright Bros. Memorial, Woodland Cemetery, their house in Oakwood, and whatever else I can throw in to work with.

There are plenty of Hotels and Motels around the Dayton area to choose from, and lots of places to eat, So how did you, who set up a GTG, go about getting something going?

Would there be any interest in something like this?

Absolutely!!!!!!!

I live in KY about 3 or so hours from Dayton so I would be VERY interested in a GTG there.

I really hope you can get it off the ground. I am jonesing to go to a GTG and meet some other NBs/NB owners.

Please let me know what you come up with.

Don't forget the Neil Armstrong steps on the moon museum... I mean, the air & space museum.

Seriously, it's short notice but you have the 40th anniversary of the moon landing in 3 weeks and Neil Armstrong is from Dayton as well as the Wright Bros. stuff... you have a tailor made theme. If you shoot for next year, try to do it around the moon landing (which SHOULD be a national holiday IMNSHO) with the bikes to space theme.

Don't tell anyone...but Neil Armstrong is from Wapakoneta, Ohio which is about halfway between Dayton and Toledo. That would still be a good caravan to do though.

Just need to figure out a day to do it. All of my weekends are open as far as I know, so it can be a Saturday or Sunday for me...or both depending on how long people want to stay.

My Itinerary (so far) is to meet at the FairField Mall near Wright State University about 8:00am and caravan to the Wright Memorial. There is a Interactive Center there that opens at 8:30am we could go through. After that we would be off to the Air Force Museum which opens at 9:00am, you can spend upwards of 2-3 hrs walking around seeing all the airplanes and exhibits. From there we can go to lunch at BD's, then see if anyone wants to do more sightseeing by going downtown to drive past a few monuments and then checking out the Wright Bicycle Shop (I need to check the hours its open).

I still need to lay out driving directions for the various places so people don't get lost if they are not familiar with the area.

What do you think?

I think that all sounds great. My weekends are free as well so either day would be good.

This sounds like such a fun time.

Sounds good! My vote is for a Sat, that way those of us that are driving some distance can enjoy the festivities without having to cut out early so we can drive home and get sleep before work on Mon The hubby and I would make a long weekend of it---come out Fri night, meet ya'll on Sat, go home Sunday morning/afternoon.

I'd say it's a good plan...all the good GTG's start as grass roots efforts. Just need to start it and, after the first time, figure out what does/doesn't work for next time

How about July 25th, the last Saturday of this month? Check all your calendars and see if that's a good day for you.

I'm in. Just let me know the details and I will be there.

I also know a woman that I work with who has a 78 classic Beetle convertible who says she would love to come as well. Her daughter has a NB, so she might come to.

Beetlescott is just in Louisville, so if you message him, he might be interested in coming as well.

I cannot wait for this.

I really hope it all comes together and I get to meet you all!!

This is a test....for the next 60 seconds we will be conducting a test of the Google maps to see if you end up at Max & Erma's Restaurant (A) at Fairfield Commons which is the meeting point for the planned GTG in Dayton, Ohio. If the link works for you, then I will use it when I post the GTG in the Midwest section.

I went to Amsterdam and I know a friend that went to Germany, we both went on bike tours, which I think they would offer in Ireland, it is a fantastic way to see the country side and city, I highly recommend it, and it is rather cheap and lasts a few hours.

Okay, as regards renting a car in Ireland, go to one of the car hire companies. You could also investigate a fly-drive package, in which the flight and car are paid in one.

I would advise NOT driving into Dublin, as finding parking is a nightmare and various organisations in Dublin are a little too clamp-happy! The other cities are okay, just be aware that many of these have one-way street systems, and a disc parking system.

There are many interesting places to visit in that region, and some very good towns. Close to Shannon airport you have Bunratty Castle which is famous the world over. Close by is Limerick City, and then travel on as you head towards Dublin.

That is orange juice, Cereal, Bacon, Egg, Sausage, Mushrooms, and or Black & White pudding. Tea or coffee and toast, or Brown Bread. That should set you up for the day. Avoid Stopping in a Bed & Breakfast in a town called Roscrea.
