SoCal- Irwindale Speedway Lap Sat. June 16th

Alrighty Orgers-

On Saturday June 16th Irwindale Speedway has invited Inland Valley Volkwagens (a mostly air-cooled club) to do an honorary lap around the track. One of our membrs, Wayne (Calicrewzin), has extended this invitation to the Newbeetle.org members to participate as well.

Each car and 2 people are allowed free entrance to the event and participation in the car show that will be in the Irwindale Speedway Chalet Village area for race fans to check out. Any additional friends and family members that would like to attend can get in for half off (which is about $8).

Before the night's race begins, us VW's will take an honorary lap around the track while the announcer talks about out vehicles and clubs (as long as that's alright with the Mod's... they'd like to talk about the Org!).

The max attendence is 40 VW's and minimum is 20. Wayne's group already has a lot of air-cooled VW's wanting to join in so get your bids in early to experience this once in a lifetime opportunity to take your baby around the race track!

Arrival time is 3:30pm as to be ready by the 4:00pm gate opening.
We'll be meeting up with everyone at Denny's at 2pm

Just a couple clarifications on this event. The itinerary is pretty close to this.
3:30 PM- Arrive at the Speedway
3:45 PM- Roll in to the breezeway between the stands and pit area. Stage the cars, and motors off when they let the public in at...
4:00 PM- Spectators admitted into the Speedway.
6:15 PM- Be ready to roll out from breezeway to staging are at rear of track
6:45 PM- Parade Lap (not a hot lap ) in front of crowd.
7:00 PM- Park back in breezeway, find a seat in the stands, and enjoy a night of racing action!
So there's a little over two hours between parking and the actual lap, but in that time you can watch the race cars do their qualifying laps on the track, grab some food, and just hang out with the others. They have kids activities, face painting, etc., so the pre-lap time isn't as long as you might think.
Once we do our lap, we will be parked back in the breezeway during the races, or you can leave if you'd like at that point and go out to dinner somewhere (but you won't be allowed back in). The races usually go from 7-10 PM. You can leave at any time during the night, but here's a suggestion you might want to remember, leave a little early! After the last race, they open up the pit area for all the fans to check out the racers. In doing so, the breezeway is PACKED with pedestrian traffic, and the officials will not allow you to drive out until it is clear, which usually is 45 minutes or longer. They are running 5 classes of racing that night, the last of which is the Figure 8's. So unless you plan on sitting in your VW until 10:45, leave when they start the Figure 8's!

Hey, Baldy wanted to know if I should bring a helmet to this thingie? I know that sounds 'special', but just wanted to make sure. We are going to be on a major track after all.

LMAO! Well, our parade lap in front of the crowd is only about 5 mph, so you would definitely look "special" if ya wore a helmet!
