![]() (Sorry for the long post, but this is an important event) On Saturday, Sept. 22nd at the Orange County Fairgrounds in Costa Mesa will be the 8th Annual Cruisin’ for a Cure Auto Show. ALL proceeds go towards Prostate Cancer Research at the Jonsson Cancer Center of UCLA. This show is special to me, as my Father-in-law is a prostate cancer survivor, and I know first hand what it can do to a person. Of the first 7 CFAC shows, I’ve attended twice, and shown four times, the last two being in my VW. Don’t be intimidated by the Hot Rods, if you go you’ll see that people LOVE the VW’s! Fees are $40, which includes car show entry, two adult passes, and discount coupons to the adjoining HUGE Orange County Swapmeet. Kids 12 and under are FREE! There is a 1-1/2 mile cruise route where you can sit back and watch the classics roll by, or jump in your ride and cruise it yourself! Even if you don't own a show car, you will have a great time at the Cruise! There are lots of displays from the latest in military vehicles to the hottest in high performance cars, custom cars, and Street rods. Restored fire trucks will parade onto the grounds and be on display all day. For a video of the 2006 show, check out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GRPXuC1wc4A To print out an entry form, go to http://www.cruisinforacure.com/entry_forms.htm Get your entry forms mailed in early, as they sell out EVERY year, and it’s limited to 3400 cars Because you are donating to the Jonssen Cancer Center, your entry fee is 100% tax deductible. An article and a few pics on the 2006 show can be found at http://www.driveonline.com/content/view/150/85/ Info on the show, and it’s main purpose, as per the V.P. of it, Ross Kroenert. Cruisin’ For A Cure is the world's largest one day charity custom/classic auto show with over 3400 vehicles on display, over 200 vendors and exhibitors, and a mile and 1/2 cruise route. Cruisin' For A Cure is a registered non-profit California organization. All of the individuals that organize the show, handle show day logistics, and generally help make this event a success, are doing this voluntarily in addition to their “day jobs”. Unlike many other automotive fundraising events, none of the money goes to a car club, promoter, or ”administrative overhead”…. There are none! Thus, you can be assured that your donation goes directly to prostate cancer research. That is why we have all participants make their entry check out to the UCLA Jonsson Cancer Center. We simply log in the vehicle information for the show and forward the check to the UCLA Jonsson Cancer Center. Prostate Cancer will strike over 189,000 men this year alone. Of these men, over 31,000 will die. That’s one man every 12½ minutes! Husbands, fathers, sons, and brothers…..in many cases it could have been prevented with regular precautionary checkups. Please take the free PSA test at the show. A simple PSA test, while not the complete answer, will indicate if there is the possibility of a problem. It is a simple, painless blood test. This year, over 775 men were tested at the Cruise. Of these, 52 were discovered to have a high count and instructed to see their doctor for further testing. Over the past several years, upon further testing, 14 men were found to have the disease, sent to the hospital, and received the medical attention that saved their lives. Now you know why we do this show! Also, look at the car they are raffling off at the show that day! ![]()

By the way, if you think "Why would I bring my Beetle to a Hot Rod show?", think about this. It's no JUST a hot rod show, it's for anyone who likes to cruise in their ride. I mean, come on people, last year there were over 120 PT Cruisers (Yes, I said PT-frakkin-Cruisers) there. The year before there were over 150.

For those that are going, we are meeting at the Coco's parking lot at the Green River exit off the 91 Freeway at 6:15 AM on Saturday the 22nd, and rolling out from there at 6:30 AM SHARP. That way we can all roll in together at the show and guarantee parking as a group.
