Smile Asheville Bug-In

Hey Everybody!

My name is Tim Maloney and I live in Charlotte, NC. On #newbeetle on freenode I am CyberdogX86, named after one of my favorite Mac apps and the cpu in my Mac Mini(The New Beetle of computers:-).

I have been talking about organizing a GTG around here for awhile. When I worked for Speedway Motorsports Incorporated, the company that owns Lowes Motorspeedway and 6 other tracks, I thought about doing it at the track here. However, I found out it was expensive to do anything actually involving the track itself and put the idea on hold.

Lately I have broached the idea, in the chat room, of having an Asheville GTG. People seem to like the idea, so I am going to organize it, with everyone's help.

We can meet in downtown Asheville. There are several great outdoor patios to hang out on, such as The Mellow Mushroom http://aroundasheville.blogspot.com/...-mushroom.html. Then a drive up the Blue Ridge Parkway http://www.romanticasheville.com/BlueRidgeParkway.htm. We can stop at Craggy Gardens http://www.romanticasheville.com/Craggy.htm for a hike on our way to to the highest point on the east coast, Mt Mitchell http://www.ils.unc.edu/parkproject/visit/momi/home.html.

Or head the other way hit Graveyard Fields http://www.brptrails.com/brp4188.htm before enjoying a lunch at The Pisgah Inn http://www.pisgahinn.com/views_from_mt_pisgah.asp.

Please respond with convenient times and other suggestions and we'll nail down a date.

If we time it right, we can get there when the other bugs do, http://tinyurl.com/24egzb.

Timmeh! After I return from H20 and all that I'll see what's up. I'd love to head up there sometime soon.
Too bad about LMS. That would've been sweet ass.

Thumbs up Yep

Until we got the bill. Plus all the people I knew who could have helped and gotten us some special treatment have quit too. Still might have been cool, but it would have been pricey to get out on the track or do anything worthwhile involving more than just meeting there.

My friend at Rousch Racing quit too, so there went another Charlotte idea. Still, there a lot of driver garages to tour and racing simulation up at Concord Mills. Might still be worth a go sometime.

Any NASCAR fans that want to get together in Charlotte anyway, let me know when you're in town and we'll visit a couple garages.

I think the Asheville GTG will have more appeal to a wider audience though. Beautiful scenery. Awesome town.

i'm in durham, nc and could potentially come to asheville for a GTG. i love asheville. i would probably make a weekend of it since it's a half day drive from where i live.

anyway, i'm very supportive of this idea and would come if my schedule permitted.

I'd be in- would use the weekend to stop by my folks in Winston. Pisgah is nice. How far is Grandfather Mountain and the swinging bridge? It's been awhile.. Maybe swing by the antique car museum at the Grove Park Inn?

Bob here from Raleigh.

Love the Parkway, and the Beetle makes it even more fun!

Retired, so most any date will work for me.

I'll keep watching.
