I'll try to be there as a spectator. We have a summer place 15 minutes down blue star hwy.

D'OH!!!

I just noticed this thread! I know my wife would LOVE to hit Gingerman in her GTI! I wonder if they would let us register even though it's after the 18th?

Oh, I am sure you won't have a problem registering... We may go spectate, but I'm not planning on participating.

I might come to spectate, maybe. I can't imagine myself driving on the track with zero experience. Heck, I can barely down-shift properly, not to mention heel-toe...

I wonder how good are the people that go into beginners class, though.

Maybe "Ibid" (first post) can chime in on your concerns? I've met her a handful of times at local events. She's quite the experienced, local Midwest NB.org authority on ameteur car club racing!

...but my opinion is that you're probably OK to try it, as long as your vehicle can pass the tech inspections and you comply 100% to the track and hosting club's rules.

I've tried my hand at local club level ameteur racing and it's SUCH A BLAST!!! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT!!! My car is a daily driver and I've done auto-cross, ralley-cross and drag racing. I've yet to take TheBattleBug on the road course... but I hope to someday! I was also registered for an ice-ralley race up in Wisconsin in 2002, however, the event was cancelled because the weather warmed up which made the ice unstable for the event to take place! It sucks that it was cancelled, but I suppose (newer)Volkswagen Beetles don't make very good boats! heh!

How do I get the schedule for this place? I'd like to know what's running when.

MIVE won't be running again until next year.

Anyone who is a 'begginer' and worried about shifting shouldn't..

As an Instructor, I don't even want my beginner students to shift.. I have them go to 3rd gear and stay there the whole time. Your first time out on a track you really shouldn't be trying to be speed racer and try to 'drag race' on the straights so 3rd gear works out just fine (I even use only 3rd gear when I drive a student's car on the track to clearly show how it does just fine in that gear)...

Anyway Audi Club has a GREAT beginner program and I'd highly recommend anyone seriously interested join audi club and participate in one of the weekend Driver Education events. I have not seen a more organized, more classroom time, and more 'exercised' track driver's ed event for the price as good IMHO!

Audi club chicago will have a 2 day event at Blackhawk Farms in August as an FYI. (august 12th and 13th)
