*CORRECTION* The Date is Sun Oct 8th. I got my weekends confused!!

Well, it's official: the Beat shall live!

We're still very much in the planning process. This post will actually contain more information that what I put up on www.newbugcarolinas.org.

We're moving the show to Durham, NC. The four of us (me..Chris, Lisa and Britt and his tallented with graphics girlfriend Marie) decided that we wanted to bring some GOOD news to Durham (please, refrain from the Duke Lacrosse Scandal jokes)!

So.. we're working with the city to use their Central Park; it's close to the old Durham Bulls playing field and right next to the Farmer's Market that has a biodiesel-powered bus!

Lisa has expressed a lot of interest in having some sort of biodiesel/green emphasis, as such the only logo we have drafted so far is done in green. Given I love green, I'm thinking it's a good color change and it coinsides with Halloween [previous years have been orange].

The beast's activites have yet to be finalized; we may have covered parking! The park is installing a pavalian but they are unsure if it will be complete in it, if it is not they assured us it shall not be a problem. There is a Porsche collector in the area that Britt knows and may be trying to get us some sneak peaks at his museum of cars. The Farmers Market should be open and we plan to attend Durham's Historic Starlite Drive-In (www.starlite-drivein.com) Saturday night regardless of the movie! During the day the Drive-In also has a flea market, for the interested.

Outside of the "car-stuff" there are LOTs of places to eat, various shopping that isn't too terribly far away, and lots of good people. I doubt we'll have any food vendors on site; but I'm going to propose that I become The Chef and see if we can have a BBQ of some kind!

So... NBeast is alive. It's kicking: and we want YOU to be a part of it!

Hmmm. I just might be able to make it to this. My uncle lives in Charlotte which is only another 2 and a half hours south of Durham. I could always stay with him sunday night.
Im going to have to think about this but I really want to go. It sounds like alot of fun.

Well...thats the weekend of the race in Charlotte...as long as my parents can still go to the race, I can go to NBeast...if they can't go to the race, I'm going to enjoy me some NASCAR so we'll see what happens closer to then.

glad to see so much interest! except one small detail: the show is Columbus Day weekend, and this year that's October 7-8th. oop! i'll see if chris can change the title of this thread when he gets back from bugapalooza...

there's a woman at my vet's office who has a satellite blue-- i've already started working on her.

we've got lots of ideas for things to do other than the car show (which will be on sunday), but i shouldn't let the cat out of the bag on those until they're definite!

also, this year it looks like we'll have a covered pavilion right in downtown Durham as our location, in the brand new Durham Central Park. that means that if it rains (which it often does on NBeast weekend), we'll have nothing to fear!

The park is walking distance to a nice hotel (the Durham Omni), and the park is actually IN my neighborhood, which is home to the historic Old North Durham Inn, a bed and breakfast. We'll be working on getting special rates at both of those places.

Durham itself has a lot to offer-- great restaurants, fun stuff like the Starlite Drive-In theater, and, despite what you may have heard in the news lately, a fantastic community.

In addition, we're about three hours from the beach, and five hours from Asheville, a very cool little town in the mountains, and home to the Biltmore Estate-- just in case you want to make NBeast part of a vacation.

I'm really excited about this NBeast. I think we're going to do some fun stuff, get a great turnout, and have a really good time!

Hey- Sounds Great! See you guys there! Let me know how I can help! I'll still be running the commute from Wmsburg to Winston-Salem (past Durham) once in a while. I can definitely recommend Asheville. Biltmore is the huge Vanderbilt mansion with great gardens, wine tasting, etc. If you can swing it and like Arts & Crafts movement, Grove Park Inn is a great place to stay there- lots of Stickley stuff, massive stone lodge. There's Old Salem in Winston-Salem, about 1/2 way between Asheville and Durham. Great 18th century Moravian town, actually more complete and original than Williamsburg with lots of activities. If you see Williamsboro on the way, stop and look around. There was once a church here under whose floor, it is said, a box was buried. Inside were drafts which revealed the true authorship of Shakespeare's plays and other majorly important works (like an original of the Constitution). Of course- the beach is always great too- especially the National Seashore beaches.
Anyway- drive, enjoy, explore
see you all there

I think we'll have a good turn out; most new beetle goers at Bugapaluza seemed interested in a Durham show!!!

Well if its going to be a weekend earlier, I may have to put that on my calendar. Being a college student I'll have to play it by ear for now with plans involving school and money of course but I'm definately interested in going!!

Unless a last soul retires, and I can get leave, it looks like I might make it only for Sunday. Columbus Saturday is next to impossible for a sub to get off. Guys, please wish that the 66 year old guy with my same birthday who just put $2,800 into his route car decides to retire soon!
