Default Carfax - beware!!!!!

CARFAX - CAN YOU TRUST THEM?

Please watch the CBC News Report on CARFAX. It's very interesting. It's a Canadian investigative consumer show.
This may help anyone that is in the market to buy a new vehicle.

Wow, did you see how CarFax tucked it's tail between their legs and got defensive when they found out they were wrong. Wish she would have mentioned the competitor...I'd pay to see what's wrong with my car. I think it's been rearended because it has a small dimple or crease in the driver side rear fender...hmmm...must research now ....

carfax is good to a point, they can only report items that are reported to start with (poilce reports, ins claims and dealer info). no report is 100%.

for example: if your car was hit and there's no police report and you didn't go through insurance to fix it, none of the report companies will know about it.

these reports are just tools, nothing is 100%, ever.

Very true, to many people nowadays thing that carfax etc knows everything and that it can't possibly be wrong. In no way does it take any buyer beware our of the process.

Great post- informative.

Cool little show too! Wonder if it's available here in the states via satellite. I'd watch it. Kinda has that Dateline feel to it.

Just thought I'd bump this 'old' thread as a reminder when you're thinking about buying a used car, get it checked out by an independent mechanic as CarFax is not perfect.

After watching that video with the smiling brainless bobble-head spokes-weasel, I wanted to !

wish I knew another company existed. I'd have used them just to be different. A friend who sells cars - sometimes used - gave me some advice. He told me not everything gets reported. He also said since so many people rely on carfax it is a good idea to check the report because if I look to resell it some day (hope not)a new buyer will probably look too and I don't want them to find anything they don't like. When service ect is done, it is usually the lowest guy who gets stuck entering the data and mileage mistakes are most common. This is the main thing I was checking on my car. Wish our computers (vag) had the secondary mileage computation feature. My 02 doesn't - at some point the newer cars do. Then you could feel more secure it is correct.
