Angry Beware of Dr. Dirt

I paid Dr. Dirt $60 shipped for used 10 and 13mm spacers, extended lug bolts and a custom shifter. The 10mm spacers are not hub-centric, so I wasn't crazy about that and was considering buying proper ones. When the package came, no bolts. As far as I am concerned, the shifter (which would require significant modification) was only worth $5 or so. It was the spacers and bolts that I really wanted. It costs about $50 or so for quality extended lug bolts. I figured used ones are worth at least $30.

I contacted him about it and asked him what he wanted to do to make it right. He gave me some BS about his girlfriend didn't box up the bolts and they got lost...and that he couldn't give me any money back because he spent $17 on shipping and had to put gas in his girlfriend's car. Thats not my problem. I think the stuff could have been shipped for $10 or less, and I didn't request any special shipping. He sent it Priority Mail with delivery confirmation, that was his choice. Its not my fault he overpaid for shipping.

I asked him (fairly I thought) to refund me $20 for the missing lug bolts. He refused and said to send the parts back to him and he would refund my money less his shipping costs. Well depending on what I spend on shipping, that would leave me with only $30-35 of my original $60. I would have nothing and he would have the parts back to sell.

Obviously that is unacceptable. So I offered to send him the parts back, at my cost, and he would refund the full $60 and he would be responsible for his screwup. He would be out $17 and have his parts back. I would be out $10-$15 and have nothing to show for it. Sounds more than fair right? If you ask me, he is still getting a fair deal considering his mistake.

Well not to him, he accuses me of extortion and refuses to work out any solution other than me keeping the parts and not getting any money back...or sending them back and losing at least $30 for HIS MISTAKE.

So...what do you think? Who's right? This is my last ditch effort before going to Paypal and filing a dispute. Maybe some publicity will help him see the light. I know its not much money, but for a guy like me it makes a difference.

Unfortunately this thread will probably get closed by the mods cause they don't want a lot of "drama" around, BUT. In my opinion, he didn't send you what you paid for. He already admits he didn't ship the bolts, which means he owes you money!

If he doesn't fix it, just make it simple and file a claim with Paypal and it will get fixed pretty quickly. Sucks to have to go that way, but when you consider you never got everything you paid for, then you need to be compensated. It's pretty simple.

Interesting. Either admins were aware of the issue (I didn't contact them) and shut him down, or he deleted all his posts/threads in an effort to save face. I am pretty sure admins have access to PM's.

He is the new owner of this car:

the name still doesn't ring a bell to me.... but he's not banned, so the mods didn't do anything, looks like he completely wiped his account manually.

so now, unless you have stuff printed, or the mods want to go into the deleted post cache, its your word against his, and it looks like he doesn't want to talk.

So unless you have any other way to contact him, the most civilized route to take is to go thru paypal.

Thats easily the only way you're gonna get your full refund. make sure if you do send the pars back you get a confirmation too so you can show paypal you did send them back.

I've been dealing with the guy for days regarding this issue. I have his email address and I just opened the Paypal dispute.

I have record of all of his statements, the ball is in his court.

the whole deal sounds sour to me. From missing bolts and the spacers not being what you'd expected. If you ask me, He knew he shipped the order wrong from the get-go. His guilt is easily admitted with the deletion of his posts. It's very possible if you don't have some of His postings, that you can go to the "Way Back Machine" and more than likely it's archived there.

Dude needs to make good on this. As memory serves me, He lives in Zephryhills, FL.

I knew what the spacers were from the start, thats why I only paid $60 for everything. If the bolts had been shipped (apparently his GF lost them at the post office) there would have been no issues. If he would give me $20 there would be no issues. Even if I return everything and get $60 there will be no issues.

To my knowledge, he never said anything incriminating and everything was on the up and up in his threads. I was dealing with everything via PM. The only reason he deleted his posts was to save face and hope that people wouldn't know who I was talking about.

I've tried to be patient with the guy, but there is no way I'm going to let him slide on this. A deal is a deal, I shouldn't have to pay for his (or his GF's) mistake. Any way you cut it I'm still getting a raw deal. If I keep everything and get nothing back, I still have to pay another $50 for bolts. If he gives me $20 back I'm still have to pay an extra $30 for bolts. If he gives me $60 back I'm still out $10-15 to send stuff back to him. Worst case scenario he is out $17 for shipping for his mistake. Well, actually, worst case for him is he is out an extra $20 if he sends that to me and I keep the parts. Even then he is still at least $20 richer than he was before. So what if he had to put gas in her car so she could go to the post office? It doesn't take a tank of gas to go to the post office in Zephyrillis.

That sucks dude !!

I've grown very skeptical of who I buy stuff off, and this just adds to my mistrust.

I've pretty much sworn off most on the tex', and if they haven't been around for atleast 6 months and made a couple knowledgeable posts than no deal.

with a ID like Dr.Dirt, I would already be questioning him. I try and get a phone number and talk to most I'm purchasing from to make sure they don't sound like a 12y.o. that would pull this crap.

Good luck with paypal, hope it works for you.

Its also interesting to note that if you click the numbers of the voters after the poll was completed, you can see who voted for what.

Guess who voted that you should ship both ways AND Dr. Dirt is out both ways?

Even this crazy catlady thinks you were wronged...and, well, she really knows "wrong" and she needed some Cheetos.

My vote is Dr. Dirt refunds you and pays for shipping.

What an idiot. So he messed up with shipping. All he had to do was apologize and send the bolts or give you a refund. Now he's hiding - shows his true character, I suppose.

On top of deleting his posts, he's also made it so no one can PM him. This is shady, shady stuff. He also voted in the poll!

Sorry you got scammed dude . Bill about did last summer trying to buy a power mirror for his dad's Vanagon for a bday present. Took over 2 months to get the correct thing shipped to us (first he sent the drivers side, even though the entire convo was about the passenger...). Then it ended up being falsely advertised once we did get it. It was beat all to heck and wasn't in nearly that good of shape, plus the guy just chopped the wires for the power! Bill gave up and just kept what we got. His dad ended up getting it fixed up nice. But we know how you feel. Unfortunately, thats the danger with dealing with individuals online. Hope you can get something out of this.

More than an equitable solution IMO.

This incident reminds me of someone trying to sell fog lights a year or so ago; the pics were out of focus, but I still noticed that there was only two mounting brackets instead of three and they wanted $20 for each one. I always ask for pics and specify that if I do not receive what is in the pics, I'll get angry and, "...don't make me angry. You wouldn't like me when I'm angry."
