It doesn't look much like a tampon.
It looks more like 2 huge unwrapped tampons stuck together and loaded with electronics. Discrete? Puh-leeze! No woman carries unwrapped tampons around in her purse - that's just gross. It's realistic to men, at least, and since more criminals are male, they just might be fooled. (yeah, i'm deliberately missing the joke)

Ah, well, boyz will be boyz. To them, "tampon" is a naughty word: to us, it's just something we buy in the supermarket. My late stepfather would never fetch anything for me out of one of my bags or purses because he was terrified a tampon might roll out and touch him. So why the high tech? Just wave a tampon at your attackers and they'll flee in terror.
