Default New design

It looks like a chopped top Beetle. I like it, except for the rear tail lights. Way too big!

I have to agree with Farris on this one. Sadly some salesman will shine you on, with no knowledge about anything but selling units.

We will have to update the NB somehow to acomodate the MK5 platform. I could see something similar to the Ragster concept but with more flair and maybe more options such as 4motion awd.

The MKVI platform is already out. If they're moving the NB, it'll be on that platform, not the MKV which is on its way out.

Very true. I live in Wisconsin, which isn't exactly a tropical climate. Several years back, some salesman tried to tell me that VW's warranty on corrosion was only applicable in states where no salt is used on roads to melt snow and ice! I called VW Customer Service and found that he was dead wrong. This was way back in 2000. I had just bought what was then a 4-year-old car; a 1996 Golf. At that time, the warranty against rust was 6 years as opposed to today's 12 years. About 3 weeks after I bought the Golf I found a speck of rust in the rear hatch.
I suck at bodywork, so I take problems like this to the pros.

Dishonest salespeople or service personnel at dealerships will tell you that 99% of rust is "surface rust" and therefore not covered. Why? They don't want to eat the repair costs.

Many body shops will lie as well, because they won't guarantee their rust repair; especially in northern regions. They would rather sell you a new body panel marked up to twice their cost than simply sand, prime, and repaint the affected area. Why? This is a bigger job that results in more profit!

Contrary to popular belief, rust bubbles are a result of it starting from the inside out. True surface rust can only be caused by accidents or something knocking the paint down to bare metal; such as rocks.

Keep in mind that the lead picture on the article is NOT the next Beetle, it's the Up! Lite concept.

Can we please stop the "This is the end" talk now? The Mk4 is finally being put to rest in the states, but the Beetle is not dead.

You mean like they did when they created the New Beetle? They tampered with the original Bug design when they created the New Beetle.

So not sure why people are so worried that in order to move the New Beetle to a new modern platform, VW is going to "tamper" with it's design.

The colors are very peaceful. Very sort of cloud-like, floaty feeling.

In the US market, yes. But in other parts of the world, no. The MK4 Jetta and MK4 Golf are being sold as the City Jetta and City Golf.

But, why would Vw update the Beetle with an outgoing platform? I think Vw should go ahead and put it on the MK6.

I just hope they hurry up with the newness if they have already put out the Final Edition of this incarnation of the Beetle.
My dream was always to own a beetle. Then they came out with the New Beetle and I didn't like it at first, and then it grew on me. I'm still not sure WHY I didn't get one as my first car.

But I do know that I would also like to eventually own a new car, not just a new-to-me car. Maybe they will have unveiled this mysterious redesign by the time I have the means to buy it I'm parting with my convertibles and I'll need a me-car again soon, but for now I'll put up with the car that takes me places.

Volkswagen has plans for yet another Beetle

"Volkswagen has plans for yet another Beetle"

I'm not sure how I feel about this.

Now, it's only an artist's representation, but from the news bites, it sounds pretty accurate.
