That scared me for a moment, becuse I thought someone was under the impression I was spamming! To which I asked,"Huh?"

I did see where you were from, I was just correcting you. You said the NB is NOT built on the same platform as the Jetta / Golf, which is incorrect.

I have a strong feeling that the yellow Beetle above this post is pretty much the 2011+ look. Of all the media's "guesses," this design comes up the most frequently.

When most people doodle they draw a 3D cube. I don't see your point.

That comes up most frequently because they mention the Ragster in their description and that is basically a Ragster press photo that has been photoshopped to be gold instead of the Ragster color scheme.
Go back a few to a dozen pages and you will see where I posted the original photo.

It's a very good photo chop as well, because the original Ragster from back in , what was it? 2005? had a much more pronounced flat roof. This rendering is what most automotive publications and internet articles are showing. THAT is my point. The 3D cube stuff is usually awful, and thankfully, few and far between. I'm just saying that if I were a betting man, the Yellow Beetle (and red one just like it in Automobile) is what the next generation will look like.

Yeah great photoshop...I see they cropped the photo and changed the color from white to yellow.

They didn't even get the upper extent of the back window right with the "shop" job.

I know we're just riding on speculation, especially that these are all artist renditions (me playing the broken record again), but I really don't think that the ragster concept is gonna be the one. It was convieved on the current platform (as memory serves me), which is not the foundation for the B3.

B3 on B2 (current) platform = no ragster/B3 model.

However you slice it, VW has us in full-on guess/anticipation mode. Guess we won't know until the official pics (VWoA) are released.

Any idea when the 'new' model will be out? Don't most dealerships already have the 2011 models out for sale? I saw the Fiesta at Ford recently ... nothing as cute as the Bug
I still think I'd rather buy a used Bug (current generation); they are much cuter than any pictures of the supposed 'new' bug.

Good point m'am. I remember the 2011 Hyundai Sonata being introduced at the 2010 car show- and that was in February. Yes, we usually receive new model way in advance, but VW remains tight-lipped on this.

I haven't heard anything on this end; maybe someone else has.

The new New Beetle will not come out till the 2012 model year. VW is taking a break for 2011, so there will not be any Beetles for a year... Just in time for the Fiat 500 to take the crown!

The 2K12 model year offerings will be in 2K11. Don't remember where I read it but the b3 will be available late in 11 with the convertible early 12

The Fiat 500 is looking pretty impressive. VW will have to come good with a economical cheap beetle to trump it.

Who says that the rear window wasn't made smaller on purpose? And if I recall, the original Ragster at the 2005 Detroit Auto Show had a far more squashed appearance that would never fly. I know this notorious photo was part of the ragster collection. But look at the real one at the show, and even this famous photo we've all seen hundreds of times is less radical. Either that or we've become used to it.........

According to my September 2010 Motortrend Magazine:

Volkswagen New Beetle 2012
Base Price Range: $18,200-$26,000. Body Type: Coupe,Conv.

WHATS NEW: The iconic New Beetle returns for the 2012 model year likely a more masculine body. Expect more rear seat legroom (and headroom, we hope) than the outgoing 2010 car.

The car will be built on the platform for the new-for-2011 Jetta, so expect the new beetle to adopt similar front styling. A diesel engine [ <-- me] will return as a powertrain option.

Cool Fact: VW wants the New Beetle to function as a Halo Car.

SUM UP: AN ICON, FINALLY REDESIGNED.

Base Engine: 2.0L/115-hp DOHC I-4*

OPT ENGINES: 2.0L/ 140-hp DOHC t-diesel I-4; 2.5L/170-hp- DOHC I-5

Drivetrain: Front engine, FWD

Transmissions: 6M; 6-sp twin-cl auto

0-60MPH 8.0-9.7sec*

EPA ECON CITY/HWY 21-30/30-42mpg*

Basic Warranty: 3yrs/ 36,000 miles

*= Estimated
