How could you say such a thing!?! I ought to punch you right in the jugular! Or something!

Maybe part of my excitement is that there's a concept in the works and it still looks like a Beetle.

There's no apostrophe before an 's' when you're talking about the plural version of a word. "I took some neat photo's!" is NOT correct.

"Volkswagen group and Porsche are discussing new areas of cooperation since Porsche became a significant shareholder in VW. Both VW and Audi are interested in the super-light technology of Porsche's four-door Panamera that will be introduced in 2009. Until now, observers expected Porsche to be interested in VW technology, not the other way around. One product of co-operation between the two carmakers will be the new VW Beetle, expected in 2012."

Don't get so hung up on those pics! Those were just the magazine's idea of what the new New Beetle may look like, but you can CLEARLY see that their pics are just modified versions of the current New Beetle. Look closely and you can see that the interior door panels and the dash are just the current New Beetle's, as are the side mirrors. You know the whole car will be more than just a facelift like the current NB is. The pics are clearly based on a car with the MkIV chassis. Just look at the proportions and the lines of the fenders and windshield. Plus, if you look at the convertible pic, you can see the notorious '03-'04 roof hinge covers. Remember, the next New Beetle will probably be on a MkV or newer chassis, whose wheelbase is quite a bit longer than the Mk IV chassis, that is unless they decide to do something totally radical like going with the up! chassis. So don't set your heart on these pics, but just remember that they are just an idea and an interpretation...

...and don't forget that Porsche is moving to own 51% of VW by the end of this year, and they will have more power over VW. My salesman told me today that the production cost of a Boxster is 1/3 of that of the current Jetta, so you can imagine the changes that will take place in the near future. Dr. Wendelin Wiedeking, the CEO of Porsche, had consultants from Japan help him improve production efficiency back in the early 90s, and that's how he turned a struggling company into the most profitable car company that it is today. Hopefully, that means that instead of just shelving the Rabbit, he'll find a new, cheaper, and more efficient way of producing the next generation Golf and still send them over to us, as Rabbits of course!

It just says to me that the build quality will greatly improve, but the chance of a future 'fast' production NB will be nil.

Somebody please find and post a pic of Marlon Brando in The Godfather, the scene where he's chasing his grandson thru the garden with an orange peel over his teeth.

Bill you know that if this comes to light, some silly person will make teeth out of that grill and think it's so sweet. Trust me, and it's sad to say, it will happen.

Yes, I know I'm replying to a post made a year and a half ago, but I think an important detail was missed.

Sue, you were wrong about the word (that was originally boldened): connaîtra. You translated as "is contrary", but it's the future form of the verb connaître, to know well or be acquainted with.

What that part was saying was that "[the NB] will know a descendant."

Thanks for the article. Weird concepts though... Blue one's butt reminds me of the PT Cruiser.

100% will not buy if it looks anywhere close to that.

Rear-engine is cool though.
