Just got a $36 refund on service check in the mail from VW
First time since 1998 have I ever gotten anything happy in the mail from VW, usually it's me pumping money into them!

Personally i think it is unacceptable that Volkswagen can let the ENTIRE run of New Beetles and many of their other models as well, have this defect go, even through model changes like the New Beetle. This has been a KNOWN defect to these guys for years.
I must have brought in my old 99 Beetle for this same problem 4 times (only one was covered from an old recall and one time it failed within the warranty period of the paid fix). And now i discover that it is still a problem with my 06 Beetle?? ![]() |

I had mine in for it's 15,000 mile service last week (you read that right, I have over 15,000 miles on my new 2007 already
). They went ahead and replaced the brake light switch without me even having to ask. I never got a letter, but I did hear about it on the news. |

"In some vehicles with automatic transmissions, a faulty brake light could work in tandem with the shift interlock to immobilize the vehicle and require towing, said VW spokesman Keith Price."
I think that is what happened to me. Could this problem cause your car to not start? While I was driving I noticed a light flicker on my indicator panel and then a beeping. I got home and my key lock button wouldnt work. I tried my car today and it won't start! I'm in Canada and haven't received a recall letter. Last edited by BabyBlue9634; 03-11-2007 at 03:05 AM.. |

I bought a 2002 New beetle about 6 months ago and since then i have had the regulator in my window go and recently my car is stuck at work because of the transmission lock from a faulty brake light switch. I just purchased a switch today to have a mobile mechanic install it.
Being a used car how would I get recall and important info from Volkswagen. Do I need to sign anything or would this have all been submitted when I bought the car. I messaged Volkswagen about 1 month ago when this problem was happening every now and again and I was told there are no recalls or campaigns for my 2002 model and I got the same response from the dealer even after reading about a recall sent out November last year! |

I'm not even the original owner and I got a letter a month ago or so. I had the brake light issue last year and picked up a new switch and installed it myself. If I remember correctly, I think the switch was less than $20 but I probably tossed the receipt.

We contacted our local dealership and they said that Australian complianced car were different to the rest of the world and overseas recalls did not apply....which is just bulldust. What it boils down to is that there are not sufficient numbers sold in Australia so they just ignore us. Interesting to note that on the Australian VW webpage they say the only NBs sold now are the 1.6 petrol (man or auto)and the TDi (man only) and the cabriolet. |
