Default Timing of Recall Notice

I just got a notice for my 2005 Beetle TDI on 5/20/07. Apparently it can take a while before VW gets around to mailing out the notice.

Question Recall

I am picking up a new New Beetle TDi on friday. What are the chances that the problem has been taken care of?

When you pick up the car, ask if the recall has been done. Have them show you where it says so in the computer (since it should be logged).

The recall does cover both the 2006 and 2007 model year Beetles (as well as earlier model years). If your dealer is any good, they will have already performed the replacement work. I would call ahead and make sure that the switch has been replaced prior to you picking up the vehicle.

I had my 2005 TDI with manual transmission in the shop about a six weeks ago to replace the headlight cover that flew off while driving (the glue let go on the lense cover) and they did the brake switch replacement as well. All under warranty. I received the recall notice about 2 weeks later.

I have a 2001 and a 2004. Both were fixed months ago voluntarily by the dealership without me even asking about it.

I did, however get a letter in the mail recently for each one about 3 weeks apart.

Cool To recall or not to recall

Should I do it my 1998 is running fine. I hate for the dealer to get a hold of it!

I would. My 2000 was running fine until one fateful day it wasnt running fine. My dad had to rig it for my hour trip to the closest VW dealership so I would have my brake lights functioning on the interstate.

My first letter stated that it had already been done. I got a second letter a few days ago stating that the first letter was incorrect and it had NOT been done and that all the letters that stated it had been done were sent by accident and were wrong.

I also wanted to ask: Do I need to clean out my trunk in order for them to preform the repair? I heard the switch was located under the brake pedal in frount. Is that correct? I have a lot of stuff in my trunk that I need because I work out of my car. If I do need to move it, I would like to do it before I get there, so I don't inconvenience anyone.
