Default 2012 Volkswagen New Beetle Spied Testing [Video]

After being teased on Oprah recently, some spy video of Volkswagen‘s 2012 New Beetle has popped up online giving us the best look at at the new car.

With lines more reminiscent of the original Bug, there's a more prominent hood with a profile that's closer to a coupe, eliminating some of the excessively cute traits of the previous generation.

There are no details on the underlying engines or if VW has decided to adapt its more budget-oriented strategy to the car, as it did with the Jetta, which would significantly reduce the price of the car over the past models.

See the video at the link below.

i like the cute look and they sure did away with it for the 2012 version. if that is how the new beetle will look like, i would rather get an abarth 500 when i am done with my 2010 new beetle because it's cuter looking

Oprah is welcome to give me a freebie, but I think the first generation of New Beetle is cuter and more iconic.

Thanks for posting!
I'm a fan of the chopped more aggressive and more classic look.

i think the current model looks better. cute was what made the current car such a big success, and vw is taking a big risk by making something that doesn't appeal to a huge chunk of the current owners.

the one after the 2012 will be cuter if there ever is one. things go in cycles!

The 2012 Beeetle is going to be a Jetta... only the body shape will be different. It will feel and handle like a Jetta.

Just like the previous generation Beetle was a Golf with a Golf feel and handling. Its just the body shape that's different.

The new design of this Beetle , to me , has a PT Cruiser-esque look to the shape of it . I am not sure what to think , yet . I guess I will see what it looks like in person and see how it drives before I pass judgement on it . In the end , though , it will still be a VW and worth a look .

Thumbs down Yuk

They are kidding right............This car is far to big.....The only reason this car should have been redone is to go up against the Mini, Fiat 500, Alfa Mito.....It's just another chick car all over again because Opra just bought all the chicks a new one........This is a bad joke..............Goodbye Beetle hello Fiat 500 Abarth...........

One must remember that the only views we've seen thus far are with the current bumpers. While the 2012 Beetle probably will be slightly longer in wheelbase, these current bumpers that are taped on and intended to disguise the real ones that will go onto the upcoming version likely make the car appear to be longer than it actually will turn out to be.

I find myself more and more interested in this car. As my teenage daughter grows, my NB's back seat is looking small and smaller; ditto for the trunk. I really dislike the current Golf & Jetta styling, because I hate sharply swept-back windshields and long diagonal A-pillars that hamper visibility. Ironically, I'm now driving the descendant of what was originally the most aerodynamic car on the road... but now, I like it because it's the least aero thing I can buy! Except for a MINI: I'd be shopping for a Countryman now, if not for the cost.

I quite like it. I work for VW... and they haven't told us ANYTHING about it.

A New New Beetle is better than no New Beetle!

As an avid VW show participant, I hope clubs will now split New Beetle classes as opposed to clumping all of them together. In fact, they SHOULD go like this:

98-05
06-10
12+

I like it. I think it is a nice evolution to the current model. I would like to see the interior which for me needed a update as well. This car should be a direct competitor to the MINI another car that I love. Unfortunately I think the MINI is a better car all around. But I am a longtime VW fanatic, my first car was a 1982 VW Scirocco! As a matter of fact they should bring back the Scirocco to be the MINI beater.

When I meant bring back the Scirocco I meant to bring it back to the U.S. and the reason why its not here is because they do not want to cannibalize the sales of the GTI.

I dont like it,,i love the 98 through 03 only they changed the 04s and up to a more of a box like look with the trim its just my opinion but i prefer the first few years, just as i dont like the old ones either, I guess that leaves me screwed once the 03 is to old to buy as the years go on. But if antiques can be restored so can my babygrl I guess. 2000 batik blue

There's a non-camo shot in the new Road and Track.

I still don't know what to think of these new images ...
I like the current NB styling ... it's always been my fav (because of it's cute factor).
I will have to wait and see what the new models look like when they come out! At that time Versa will be paid off
