01 February 2006

VOLKSWAGEN REPORTS JANUARY SALES – UP 28%

New Jetta sedan up 47.9 percent and total Passat sales up 47.8 percent

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. – Volkswagen of America, Inc. reported January 2006 sales of 16,237, an increase of 28 percent as compared to the same period in 2005 when sales were 12,683.

Also of note, the redesigned New Beetle continues its strong showing with sales up 13.3 percent.

---

Essentially, Jetta and Passat sales are continuing steadily, and the New Beetle's freefall has been halted. Meanwhile, the Touareg's sales are still down, but then again, so are most SUV sales.

This really is excellent news, not only for NB lovers, but for Volkswagen. It is great to see this resiliency for the NB, considering it is in it's 9th model year and the exterior has only been tweaked a little since it's introduction. There is still a solid market for this fine little car in America.

Those numbers just seem kinda low. Not even 20,000 units. Tho the sale of only 16 jetta wagons really shocks me.

I noticed the low Jetta Wagon numbers last week too. Makes me wonder if there's just not a lot of stock out there, or if they're unpopular because the MKV Jetta is, well, new, and the Jetta Wagon isn't.

I wish that the Golf/GTI/R32 number was broken out, because I'm curious as to how the MKIV GTI is selling with the MKV GTI either at the dealer, or on the doorstep...

They sold more Phaetons than Jetta Wagons!

I believe those are leftover Jetta Wagons from previous model years. I don't think that Volkswagen brought a Jetta Wagon over for 2006.

You're 100% right...

In fact I believe the reason is because they made a new Passat Wagon and the previous Jetta and Passat wagons were so similar.
